2023: TVC deletes poll after Osinbajo floors Tinubu

Ahead of the presidential primary of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, a now-deleted poll conducted by TVC, a Nigeria-based broadcast outlet, tipped Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the favourite for the party’s coveted ticket.
TVC, which is reportedly owned by Tinubu, on its official handle Wednesday, conducted an APC primary-themed poll asking, “Now that Atiku has emerged as PDP presidential candidate, who should APC field as their flag bearer?”
Rotimi Amaechi, the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, incumbent Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu were listed.
After 1,721 people had voted, with Osinbajo leading with 43%, followed by Tinubu with 40%, Amaechi with 8%, and Lawan with 9% of the total votes cast, the tweet was deleted.
Similarly, a Twitter handle “@BiggDaaddyy1” known to be a dogged follower of the Asiwaju camp, and who was simultaneously hosting a Twitter space, had to delete his poll which asked: “Refusing Bola Tinubu APC ticket is a betrayal; YES or NO?”.
A total of 1,763 people voted; 73 voted NO and only 27% voted YES.
The APC primaries to select the party’s flagbearer for next year’s election is slated for June 6 to June 8.

Nov 19 (Reuters) – Lowe’s Cos forecast a slower-than-expected drop in annual comparable sales on Tuesday,
banking on a boost to its current-quarter sales from hurricane-related demand,
although big-ticket spending remained strained.
The home improvement retailer also beat third-quarter comparable sales
and profit estimates, similar to bigger rival Home Depot’s results last week.
Hurricanes Helene and Milton devastated parts of the United
States, including Florida and North Carolina, causing extensive
damage to homes, bridges, power infrastructure and crops.
These weather events drove customers to buy more water cans, generators,
chainsaws and cleaning supplies, Lowe’s executives said in a post-earnings call.
Results this quarter were modestly better than expected, even excluding storm-related activity,
driven by growth in the company’s professional category, strong online sales and smaller-ticket outdoor DIY projects, Lowe´s CEO Marvin Ellison said.
Shares of the company fell about 4% in early trading, after having risen 22% this year.
It trimmed its annual adjusted margin forecast to a range of 12.3%
to 12.4%, from a previous range of 12.4% to 12.5%.
Lowe’s, which generates roughly 75% of sales from the do-it-yourself category, has seen demand weaken for projects such as
flooring, kitchen and bath remodeling, which typically require refinancing.
“Until mortgage rates fall, the home improvement industry will continue experiencing stiff headwinds,” said Emarketer analyst Zak
Stambor.
Quarterly gross margins were “a tad light” at 33.7%, analysts noted, likely driven by a
low-margin product mix of storm sales.
“Lowe’s should have skewed to more favorable conditions than HD,” said David Wagner portfolio manager at Aptus Capital Advisors, which holds Lowe’s
ETFs.
Lowe’s reported a 1.1% drop in same-store sales for the
quarter ended Nov. 1, better than analysts’ average estimate of a 2.86% decline, according to data compiled by LSEG.
It earned $2.89 per share on an adjusted basis, beating an estimate of
$2.82 per share.
The company expects same-store sales to be down between 3% and 3.5% in 2024 from its prior forecast

Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals
on clothing, homewares, food, and electronics.
The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through
the cost of living crisis ravaging the country.
Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity that works to provide support and assistance to people in need.
Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners including Christmas decorations.
Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags of Red Rock Deli chips,
and discounted shoes from Boston Bros.
Shoppers will find men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing,
shoes from top brands, and even electrical goods at the Vinnies pop-up locations.
Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas shoes, printers, and
kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops.
There is presently a location in Ascot Vale which is open until 3
November, and another in Boronia which will remain open until Christmas – or until stock runs out.

The cost for one of London’s most pricey apartments will begin at £35million – with 600 megarich customers already securing a spot on the waiting
list.
Pricing details of billionaire John Caudwell’s spectacular 1 Mayfair
development have now been revealed and only those with the deepest pockets
can hope to afford one of the lavish pads.
The cheapest apartment on offer is expected to be an eye-watering £35million – around 70 times
the average cost of a house in the capital.
Due to complete in Spring 2026 the scheme will easily surpass London’s previous
record breaker, the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.
Caudwell told The Standard that there are already more than 600
prospective buyers on a waiting list of billionaires
and centi-millionaires who have expressed an interest in making a purchase at the scheme.
There will be just 24 ‘principal residences’ in the property including lateral apartments, penthouses
and townhouses with up to five bedrooms, and five more smaller ‘pieds-à-terre’ apartments.
The size of the homes has not yet been disclosed but the developers
say even the most modest property will start with a
guide price exceeded by only a handful of mansions in London’s richest neighbourhoods.
The average price of all 29 units – which cover 300,000 sq ft – will be close to
£70million.

The entry level price of £35million is 70 times the average London property value of around £500,000, and 130 times
the national average price of £268,000 revealed in today’s Nationwide house price survey for
November.
The development’s basement is being dug down to 90ft below ground level to make room for
a health spa with a 20 metre swimming pool as well as a car park.
The designs were led by New York based architect Robert Stern and practice RAMSA, with contractors, Mace, the construction managers and PJ Carey responsible for the creation of
the basement substructure and superstructure.
Due to complete in Spring 2026 after a six years build the scheme will easily surpass London’s previous
record breaker, the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

4u – attended the topping out of 1 Mayfair alongside senior
members of the construction team.
The ceremony was marked by the final steel rafter, one of 79 at
roof level, being put into place on the top of the nine-storey main apartment building.
No expense has been spared on the building’s interior and it will feature a ceiling with hand-painted frescos based on Michelangelo’s Map
of the Heavens in the Vatican, a reception room with a double height ceiling and 18ft high French windows overlooking the garden.
There will also be a Palace of Versailles Hall of Mirrors-style crystal callery, created
from over 1,264 hand-set pieces of cut glass, a library and a garden gallery, with seating areas opening directly onto
the central courtyard garden.
