    Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing, homewares, food, and electronics.

    The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through
    the cost of living crisis ravaging the country.

    Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity that works to provide support and assistance to people in need.

    Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners including

    There is something reassuringly robust about The Punch
    Bowl Inn. Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the
    Wainwright Gold is well kept and a huge leather sofa sits before a blazing wood
    burner; or in the dining room, solid and comfortable, with its old beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with cloths; it’s in the menu,
    too, mainly British with a Gallic burr, that makes
    full use of the magnificent local Lake District larder.

    We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero,
    and the man behind Sillfield Farm, who has invited me up to
    cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef Phil Vickery, who certainty knows
    his alliums; and the force of nature that is Lorraine Stanton, something of a legend around
    these parts. But first dinner, and a sublime twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s cheese
    soufflé, the texture as light as a sigh, the flavour profoundly, lasciviously rich.
    Mrs Kirkham’s, now made by her son Graham, is one of the world’s great
    cheeses, and this is a soufflé of quiet majesty. A mushroom soup is equally splendid, managing to be both light and gutsy, while Stornoway black pudding with bubble and
    squeak and a deep-fried egg is pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis.

    There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by assured technical precision. Duck à l’orange sees
    a plump breast cooked rare, the skin crisp, the sauce just the right side
    of bitter. It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage
    spiked with shards of smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb, four vast
    just-pink slices, drenched in the stickiest, most gloriously intense of gravies; by its side, a tiny shepherd’s
    pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.

    Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of the
    Lake District is famed for its damsons); along with a banana soufflé, this time the classic version but ethereal,
    served with vanilla ice cream and a pot of sticky-toffee sauce to pour deep into its molten centre.
    This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately done, in the sort of pub designed for lingering.

    It’s getting late now, and we’ve an early start.
    But first, another bottle of wine. Dinners like this are too rare to be rushed.

    drastically dropped. 

    Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first
    released in theaters – and eventually landed
    a little over $1 billion in the global box office. 

    The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However,
    the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million. 

    The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival. 

    Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal
    of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award
    for Best Original Score. 

    The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute
    standing ovation, per Deadline.   

    On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31%
    and a critic score of 32%

    However, audiences have since taken to X after the

    Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked hard
    to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what

    Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw

    Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government – did not deter
    his party from romping in on election day.

    In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing
    Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and
    their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister.   

    The exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (above) has been a well-kept
    secret for years, but it exploded into the public conscience in 2007 as the result of a political furore

    Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge
    member since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd which let the cat out of the bag about
    the VIP club

    The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007
    that in defending his disclosure of Garrett’s remark, Steve Price
    had to explain what the private enclave
    actually was.

    In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge is a separate frequent flyers lounge away from the crowded normal Qantas Club. 

    ‘As its name implies, the people given access to it are approved by the
    Qantas chairman, Margaret Jackson. 

    ‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’

    In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter
    Richard Wilkins was also a member of lounge.

    Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only
    witness to the remark Price said Garrett had made.

    Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes reporters, actors
    and performers, and well-known writers and sports people are said to be among the lounge’s exclusive
    membership of around 6000.

    Price went on to defend himself for reporting what
    some claimed was a confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed
    him to criticism over his own membership for allegedly promoting
    Qantas on his radio show.

    One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading
    politicians such as PM Anthony Albanese and the former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce
    (above) as ‘alarmingly cosy’

    ‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock jock
    membership of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly to enable our elite politicians and business leaders some privacy
    from the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at the time.

    ‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and confidentiality,
    ‘ he said, accusing Price of breaking ‘a confidence’.

    The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas
    CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the sole gatekeeper of entry into the
    club’s hushed confines.

    that you have to be personally invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers reported in 2008.

    ‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that
    the mega rich and powerful avoid having to mingle with
    the riffraff who will be travelling cattle class.

    ‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club have included
    Pauline Hanson.

    ‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure to cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional Centre.’ (Cooper was the former HIH
    insurance executive jailed for eight years on fraud and bribery offences).

    The report noted that politicians declaring membership of the lounge ‘which most of their spouses got too’ in their
    pecuniary interests that year included Liberal MPs of the day, Philip Ruddock, Bob Baldwin and Andrew Southcott.

    Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek, Bob McMullan, and Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle of
    Grange hermitage as a gift from Qantas, as did Liberal, Christopher Pyne.

    Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff Dixon,
    the airline’s spokesperson  told Nine: ‘We like to retain a bit of mystery. Membership is by invitation only
    and it is reviewed periodically.’

    Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the controversial, invitation-only lounge with one even describing it as an ‘entitlement’. 

    Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the ‘very, very high-end perk’ gives
    the airline a disproportionate level of influence over the
    country’s politicians.

    They were commenting ahead of the launch of the new book The Chairman’s Lounge by
    former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston, which
    has stirred up the controversy. 

    A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers –
    in both Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives
    and the Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the
    lavish, all-inclusive lounge.

    Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all his benefits in pecuniary interest
    statements. 

    At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of
    his upgrades ‘have been declared as appropriate.

    What’s appropriate is transparency.’  

    Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant
    ministers.

    Entry to the country’s six opulent VIP clubs are suitably discreet, but once inside, the designer lounges
    offer free à la carte fine dining, table service and a discreet army of
    dedicated lounge attendants

    On the Coalition side of parliament, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, deputy leader David Littleproud and former deputy Barnaby Joyce are also among
    the swathes of politicians who have disclosed they have
    taken up free membership to the contentious club.

    Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so is Teal MP,
    Zali Steggall.

    Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and
    Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of
    their deputies are members of the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating the airline. 

    Senior public servants in the club included Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine
    Williams, Liz Hefren-Webb, Rachel Bacon and ambassador to Beijing,
    Scott Dewar.

    Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous
    business class flight upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts,
    frequent flyer points, and tickets to sporting and entertainment
    events. 

    Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.

    Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP clubs
    – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide,
    Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably discreet.

    Once inside, however, the designer lounges are noticeably luxurious, with free à la carte
    fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of wines
    and Champagne and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.

    Virgin Airlines has its own version of the VIP enclave, the ‘Beyond’ lounge. 

    Only a handful of federal politicians have relinquished their membership to the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge in the wake of the furore.

    The select few to take a principled stand on the issue include South Australian senator Barbara
    Pocock and former Wallabies star turned ACT senator David Pocock, along with MPs Stephen Bates, Queensland Green Elizabeth Watson-Brown, and Monique Ryan, a Teal from Victoria.

    Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the Independent Commission Against
    Corruption and a director of the Centre for Public Integrity, has implored all politicians and policymakers to follow
    suit.

    ‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club membership,’ he said.

    ‘You’re taking public money for the job and you are supposed to represent the public.
    Why not sit with them while you’re waiting for a plane?’

    dollar on Wednesday, as investors awaited more stimulus from the
    world’s second-largest economy and the Federal Reserve’s
    September meeting minutes due later in the day to gauge its policy path.
    The dollar held steady, giving some relief to the yuan after a sharp rally to a seven-week high last week.

    Spot yuan opened at 7.0650 per dollar and was
    last trading 12 pips lower than the previous late session close at 7.066.
    Prior to the market opening, the People’s Bank of
    China (PBOC) set the midpoint rate, around which the yuan is allowed to trade in a 2% band,
    at 7.0568 per dollar, only 3 pips weaker than a Reuters’ estimate.

    China’s blue-chip CSI300 index dropped for the first
    time since Sept. 13, poised to snapping a 10-day winning streak, after officials
    on Tuesday failed to offer much new on stimulus plans to revive the economy.
    The yuan is down 0.7% against the dollar so far this month, due to broad dollar strength, but the currency has 0.5% firmed for the year-to-date.

    China equities’ recent rally has raised the bar for
    an upside surprise from expected fiscal stimulus news, said UBS strategists led by Rohit Arora, adding that the offshore yuan’s near-term
    risk reward is unattractive. “Historically, fizzling of China equities’ spurts acted as a bigger drag on CNH vis-à-vis the tailwinds from equities’ surge,” the strategists said.

    Nevertheless, market participants are still awaiting additional
    stimulus measures that could help further lift China asset sentiment.
    Citi FX traders think the offshore yuan could trade well if local equities remain supported,
    similar to what happened in Nov. 2022 – Jan. 2023, according to the bank’s note to
    clients.
    The offshore yuan traded at 7.0682 yuan per dollar, up about 0.09% in Asian trade.
    The dollar’s six-currency index was 0.039% higher at 102.53.

    JAKARTA/LOS ANGELES, Nov 13 (Reuters) – Juul Labs Inc is exploring selling its
    compact vaping devices in Asia and has sounded out government officials in Indonesia, one of the world’s most smoker-friendly countries, although gaining approval there could face significant hurdles.

    Expansion into Asia would provide the fast-growing firm with new markets at a time when it faces
    increased regulatory scrutiny in the United States and Israel over
    the potential health risks of its products’ high nicotine
    content.

    Juul representatives held discussions with the Indonesian government last month about introducing its vaping
    devices, the country’s finance ministry officials told Reuters.

    Indonesia has one of the world’s highest rates of smoking
    among adults and teenage boys and imposes no penalties for selling
    cigarettes to minors. It also has a population of 260
    million, making it a highly attractive market for tobacco
    and vaping firms.

    A person familiar with Juul’s plans said executives for the San Francisco-based company are concerned authorities may
    be reluctant to grant approval due to likely opposition from
    the traditional tobacco industry, which provides much of
    Indonesia’s tax revenue.

    Tobacco taxes accounted for nearly 150 trillion rupiah ($10.2 billion) or about 11 percent of national tax revenue in 2017,
    government data showed. Each province also imposes taxes on cigarettes.

    Juul is also worried its argument that vaping is healthier than smoking will not hold much sway in Indonesia, which is not as concerned as other countries about
    health issues, said the person, declining to be identified as the discussions were not public.

    Juul representatives reached out to the finance ministry to discuss how it
    would be taxed on any sales of devices there, the Indonesian officials said.

    The government needs to examine the domestic e-cigarette market to determine how a foreign player such as Juul could
    hurt local small and labour-intensive e-cigarette firms, said Sunaryo, a senior official in Indonesia’s customs and excise office, who like many
    Indonesians uses only one name.

    “We will need it to study it,” he said, adding he wasn’t
    sure Juul would comply with a regulation that requires e-cigarette devices and liquids to be sold separately.

    Juul also would need approval from Indonesia’s Food
    and Drug Agency. Officials at the agency said Juul had yet
    to be in touch.

    Other Asian countries the three-year old firm is actively considering
    for expansion include India, South Korea and the Philippines, the person familiar
    with Juul’s plans said.

    In addition to Indonesia, Juul filed trademark applications for those countries between April and October 2018, as well as in Malaysia and Singapore, according to a Reuters
    review of government filings. It opened its first Asia office in Singapore
    in July.

    So far Juul, currently valued at $16 billion, is available only in the United States, Canada,
    the UK and Israel. It has plans to enter
    Russia later this year.

    Juul said in a statement to Reuters it is “proactively learning more” and engaging
    with local officials in Asia “to understand and hear their views.” It does not have
    immediate plans to launch in any Asian country, it said.
    Juul spokeswoman Victoria Davis declined to elaborate.

    Roughly two-thirds of Indonesian men smoke tobacco daily, and more than 21
    percent of boys aged 13-15 smoked cigarettes regularly, according to
    a WHO report last year.

    E-cigarettes, available in Indonesia since at least 2013, are a small but growing market.
    The customs office estimated there are about 300 unsupervised liquid makers known as brewers in Indonesia, producing various liquid products to more than 4,000 vape stores and 900,000 smokers.

    Philip Morris International Inc, maker of Marlboro cigarettes, which now controls
    about a third of Indonesia’s market through its stake in Sampoerna, does not offer
    any of its non-combustible cigarette products in Indonesia.

    That includes its IQOS device, a heat-not-burn tobacco
    product, according to a company spokesman, who declined to comment on why it has not
    introduced the product.

    In October, the government imposed a 57 percent tax on electronic-cigarette
    liquids, on par with taxes on traditional cigarettes.
    But tax collection, particularly from smaller companies, is difficult
    in Indonesia and new rules are often ignored.

    Juul now commands nearly 75 percent of U.S.

    e-cigarette market share, up from 13.6 percent in early 2017, according to
    a Wells Fargo analysis of Nielsen retail data.

    Its products, like most electronic cigarettes, vaporize a liquid
    containing nicotine. One Juul pod contains as much nicotine as a traditional
    pack of 20 cigarettes, according to the company’s U.S. marketing.

    Juul liquid in the U.S. has a nicotine concentration of 59
    milligrams per milliliter, much higher than the liquids typically sold in earlier versions of e-cigarettes and nearly three times
    the allowable limit in the European Union.

    In August, Israel banned Juul devices with nicotine concentration of
    more than 20 mg/mL, citing “a grave risk to public health.” Juul
    is appealing that decision and currently offers a lower nicotine-strength electronic cigarette in Israel.

    In September, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration opened an investigation into Juul and other electronic cigarette companies, citing the
    rising number of teens who appear to be using Juul and other vaping devices.
    This week it is expected to issue a ban on fruit and candy-flavoured e-cigarettes sold
    in convenience stores and gas stations.

    In its statement to Reuters, Juul said its
    products are intended for adult use only, and that it aims
    to “improve the lives of the world’s one billion adult smokers” by providing an alternative to cigarettes.

    It is not clear when Apollonia’s relationship with Prince
    began or ended as he was dating another one of the stars
    of Purple Rain during the making of the film, Susan Moonsie.

    Prince and Beyonce famously joined forces onstage at the 2004
    Grammy Awards, performing a medley that included his
    iconic 1984 single Purple Rain. 

    Their duet also included her fan favorite number Crazy In Love, which saw him
    accompany her on the electric guitar.

    Afterwards, Prince gave an interview in which he
    shared his appraisal of Beyonce’s musical abilities when they worked together.

    ‘I was really curious as to how much she knew musically, and I
