Crisis has continued to linger in Ipele community in Owo local government area of Ondo State over the selection process of a new monarch for the community.

The last Olupele of ipele, Oba Abel Alade, died in 2015 and the community has been enmeshed in leadership crisis.

Efforts to appoint kingmakers for the purpose of electing a new monarch have been stalled following suits filed by various interest groups.

Last week, some youths of Ipele under the auspices of Ipele Youth Progressive Movement, urged Ondo government to allow determination of two suits before the court to before the selection process of a new Olupepele of Ipele.

The youths, who spoke in a statement by its President and Secretary, Bola Orisadare and Seguin Osuntuyi respectively, dissociated themselves from any planned protest if the vacant stool of Olupele was not filled within two months.

They pleaded with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to allow the law takes its full course before the commencement of the selection process of a new monarch for Ipele.

“We are reliably informed that one person has been sued in the High Court for illegally parading himself as a Kingmaker and acting Olupele of Ipele.

“We passionately beg our governor to discountenance the alarm of impending crisis on the matter and to allow the court to determine the two suits before the selection process begins.”

Tajudeen Ahmed, in a letter addressed to Governor Akeredolu, alleged three of the Ipele kingmakers, were not entitled to be installed as kingmakers of their respective quarters.

He said: “Since the eligibility of the trio are already subjudice, they cannot legitimately take part in the process of selection of next Olupele until the determination of the case in tandem with plethora of judicial authorities.

“We humbly request that you direct that the affected acclaimed Ipele Kingmakers not be allowed to exercise the rights of kingmakers in the selection of next Olupele of Ipele. Alternatively, the selection process be stopped pending the determination of two pending issues.”
