    Miley Cyrus and the Beckhams. 

    I’m completely smitten with the cuteness of pet pigs.
    I lose hours scrolling through Instagram, looking at pictures of furry little piglets with pretty pink snouts.

    There are 255,000 Insta posts with the hashtag
    #petpig and I’ve probably looked at all of them. Then there’s the
    286,000 posts hashtagged #micropig and I’d hazard a guess that I’ve seen all of those too.

    So I’m rather excited to discover that there’s a pig farm less than an hour
    from central London, where I can find out what it’s really like to have a porcine pet.

    While celebrities might get away with turning up to photoshoots, TV appearances and fancy restaurants with all manner
    of furry creatures, will I get the same reception if I take a pig for a stroll down the
    high street?

    The pair stopped off at The Griffin, a private members
    club, bistro and bakery, for some refreshments after a trot down the high street 

    Samantha Rea spent time at the Kew Little Pig Farm in Amersham,
    Buckinghamshire to learn how to muck out and care for pigs 

    Learning how to feed hay to the pigs did make Samantha
    question whether it’s easier to stick with a dog or cat as a pet 

    I’m hoping the Kew Little Pigs Farm will help me find out.

    It specialises in miniature pigs, which pig lovers can buy or ‘adopt’ to visit on the farm.

    Then there are the day trips. The Piggy Pet & Play package lets
    visitors ‘pet, brush, groom, watch and play with the pigs.’ The
    Pig Enthusiast package can include putting sun cream
    on the pigs, and the Comprehensive Guide to Pig Keeping
    teaches you everything you need to know before buying your own micro
    pig.

    Clearly I must go there!

    And so I head to Amersham, in Buckinghamshire, where Kew Little Pigs Farm is based.

    When I arrive, owner Olivia Mikhail looks slightly
    concerned at the sight of my Converse trainers and
    cropped jeans, a combination that will surely result in splattered shins.

    However, Olivia has no idea just how prepared I actually am, because I have packed
    not only knee high wellies for my time on the farm, but also my designer heels, for my glimpse into what life’s
    like as a pig-owning celebrity.

    Comedian John Bishop was left devastated when his rescue
    pig Milo passed away last year, describing him as the ‘heartbeat’ of the
    family

    Paris Hilton started the chihuahuas in handbags craze, and is also the proud owner of Princess Piglette

    George Clooney, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Jonathan Ross, Charlotte Church
    and even the Beckhams have all kept pigs as pets over the past
    decade or so, while more recently Ariane Grande and Pete Davidson adopted Piggy Smallz during their short-lived romance. 

    Comedian John Bishop gave rescue pig Milo a home for more
    than a decade and was devastated when the pet passed away, saying he was the ‘heartbeat’
    of the family.

    They’re as much a celeb accessory as oversized sunglasses – which is why I’ve brought those with me
    too.

    But first things first. Before I spend an afternoon taking a petite
    pig for a stroll, I sit down with Olivia in the Kew Little Pigs cafe, to complete
    the theory side of the Comprehensive Guide to Pig Keeping.

    It turns out there is quite a lot of admin involved in owning a pig,
    alongside a rule book thicker than Harry Potter. 

    Who knew that you needed a license to walk a pig? Who
    would imagine that you can’t feed pigs your kitchen leftovers?

    It used to be common practice, but has been banned because of the risk of diseases
    such as African swine flu and foot and mouth disease
    that can be spread by consuming contaminated pork products. 

    Who can fathom having to fill out a form to drive your pig from one place to
    another – again for disease control reasons? 

    After all the admin and mucking out, Samantha was delighted to move on to the
    fun part – cuddles with Astrid 

    Samantha found that mucking out the pig pen was
    actually a lot more civilised than picking up poo on a dog walk 

    Samantha came armed with wellies for her day at the farm, but
    made sure to keep it glamorous 

    After swapping her flimsy trainers for wellies, Samantha felt equipped to tackle her day on the farm 

    And who would guess that pigs have to have their own house?
    I mean, it’s only got to be about the size of shed, but it’s
    actually a law to uphold welfare standards.

    I suppose none of this is an issue for celebrities who have people to do paperwork for them – not
    to mention acres of space – but to me it seems insurmountable.

    Olivia senses that my dreams are crushed and attempts to reassure me:
    ‘It’s really not that much paperwork. Look, filling in this form
    would take two minutes.’ 

    Moving on from the theory, we head outside for the practical part of the course.

    Here, in large pens, are lots of little pigs which are super cute, so
    this makes me happy.

    I am given a rake to claw the pig poo into a dustpan. Both the rake and the dustpan have long
    handles and I like the distance this creates.
    It is certainly more civilised than picking up poo in a flimsy plastic bag on a dog walk. 

    Clearing away pig excrement with proper equipment which allows you to
    maintain a civilised, and sanitary, distance makes me wonder if – despite the paperwork – pigs might just trump dogs.

    Samantha was worried she might attract stares walking Astrid through town, but nobody batted an eyelid

    Taking a pig out for a walk is trickier than it looks, and a lot
    of treats are required to keep things on track 

    Next, Olivia asks if I would like to feed the pigs.
    Yes of course! She hands me some hay that’s stuffed inside what’s basically a
    large fishnet stocking, the size of Santa’s sack. The hay sticks
    out of all the holes, and it’s my job to hang up the sack
    in the pig pen, so the pigs can eat from it.

    This sounds easy. Only it’s not. ‘NOT THERE! NO! IT’S GOT TO BE
    HIGHER! TIE IT ROUND THE POST! NO! NOT LIKE
    THAT! NO!’

    I feel like a failing contestant on The Crystal Maze, only this is worse because I’m now surrounded by hungry pigs and
    I cannot see a panic button.

    I swear there was something on Netflix where murdered
    bodies were dumped in a pig pen, to be eaten by the pigs.

    Or maybe the bodies were eaten alive. This definitely
    happens all the time, according to TV, and now I don’t even know which is worse, the prospect of being felled
    by pigs eating through my ankles, or the pressure to
    hang the hay correctly.

    It is like my challenge on The Crystal Maze has been especially devised to
    amuse the inhabitants of hell.

    I find myself grateful to make it out of the pig pen alive.

    Surely I get to do celebrity stuff now?

    Celebrities’ pigs are as stylish as their owners, so I’ve
    sourced designer outfits for my trottered chums. I’d initially looked at diamond chokers by Dior, because what pig wouldn’t want
    a diamond collar? But apparently pigs are happier in harnesses, which fit
    around the body, not just the neck.

    I hunt for a harness that an A-lister might pick for their pig, and I am delighted to discover a pink leopard print harness with a
    matching lead. 

    It is by Urban Pup, a pet fashion brand whose website I’ve now spent more
    time on than all the other websites in my search history.

    There’s the zebra print, the cheetah print, the pink argyle; the florals, the
    tartans, and the hearts. There’s the range inspired by Legally Blonde and the pet carrier that
    resembles a pink Chanel handbag.

    Then there are the socks…

    I turn up at the farm with more outfits for the pigs than I have for myself.
    I guess this is what it’s like being a pig parent: #SELFLESS

    I am introduced to Astrid, a 16 month old micro piglet who’ll fulfill my dreams of walking a pig.
    I show Olivia all the outfits I’ve brought from Urban Pup and she
    picks out a pink tartan harness with a matching lead.

    I want to dress up all the pigs but Olivia says no. That’s OK.

    There is probably some law about only one pig at a time looking this stunning.

    When Astrid and I are dressed, we head into Old Amersham.
    It’s a pretty market town in the Chilterns with cobbled
    streets and quaint white buildings with beams.

    So how will locals feel about a pig on a lead?

    I imagine I may be sternly spoken to by a member of the Women’s Institute.
    However, it turns out that Old Amersham is perfectly au fait with celebrity antics, given that Poirot, Midsomer Murders
    and Four Weddings and a Funeral have all been filmed there.

    On my pig keeping course I have learnt that
    pigs never poo where they eat, sleep or socialise, because they’re very
    clean, so from day one, without any training, a pig will go outside to poo.

    I am surprised then, as I arrive in Old Amersham, to find that Astrid has
    done her business in her carry box. I try not to think
    about this, as I hold her lead.

    Our first stop is the Amersham Museum. I’m not
    a massive fan of walking around looking at things, but I hear the museum homes a
    Tudor dining table that visitors are welcome to sit at. It is
    about lunchtime, so I’m hopeful I’ll be served a Tudor banquet.

    I quite fancy a tankard of wine and a bit of wild
    boar.

    Unfortunately, Astrid does not, and so, despite being welcomed by museum director Briony,
    we leave pretty much as soon as we arrive.

    We go for a stroll instead, but I have to scatter pig food
    pellets to coax Astrid along the pavement. I guess celebrities get their assistants to walk
    ahead, trailing treats to entice the pet pigs in the right direction.

    However, doing it without an assistant, I find myself thinking
    that it’s definitely easier to walk a dog.

    Celebrity life is about lounging in luxurious surroundings, so Astrid and I
    head to The Griffin, a private members club, bistro
    and bakery, that’s pretty much the Soho House of Amersham.

    In the beamed building that dates back to the 17th century, there are gorgeous leather sofas and cosy cushions.

    However, I have learnt on my pig keeping course that pigs are happiest alfresco, so Astrid and I take a
    seat on the astro-turf terrace, beneath a pretty parasol that wouldn’t be out of place in a Cotswolds shoot for Tatler.

    It is here, as we relax like A-listers, that Astrid and I are
    at our happiest. As I sip a coffee and eye-up a chocolate brownie (I’m being a celebrity,
    remember, I don’t actually eat these things),
    Astrid puts her trotters up on the seat beside me and enjoys a few pig food pellets.

    Clearly this is our natural environment, so it’s probably just a matter of time before Astrid is snapped up by a
    celebrity to live life first class. 

    But for now, Astrid must mooch back to the mud, and I must
    head home to wash pig poo off my wellies.

    I am chuffed to bits to have spent an afternoon with Astrid,
    but as I think it all over, on the train back to Marylebone,
    I know that I’ll never keep a pig as a pet. 

    Aside from all the legal red tape, my lack of space in London, and
    the trickiness of trying to take a pig for a walk, there’s always the fear that the
    micro pig might turn out to be not so tiny after all. 

    I’ve seen headlines about 4 ounce “teacup” pigs growing bigger than a
    bear, and frankly I find it terrifying. So I’ll leave the pet pigs to the celebrities.

    ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
    Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are
    many ways to serve them (see tip). The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out for all beef, or flavourful pork mince.
    This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging around.
    The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have a meal for an emergency.

    SERVES 4

    4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion

    1 onion, finely chopped

    2 garlic cloves, chopped

    400g tin chopped tomatoes

    200g white bread (day old, if possible)

    whole milk (enough to soak the bread)

    500g beef mince

    250g English veal mince

    2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve

    4 anchovies, finely chopped

    2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

    salt and freshly ground black pepper

    350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)

    1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped onion and half the garlic,
    then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid
    starts to bubble, reduce to a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about
    20 minutes, to create a thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.

    2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft.
    In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies, half the parsley and the rest of
    the onions and garlic. Then add the soaked bread, lightly
    squeezing any excess milk from it first. Mix well and season with
    salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.

    3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a
    medium heat. When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes) to ensure they
    colour all over. If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all squashed
    together, setting each batch aside on a plate while you cook
    the remainder.

    4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
    Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
    Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes to cook through.
    Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.

    TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
    If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according to the packet instructions until al

    Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about him enjoying an exclusive
    and discretionary perk from Qantas during a tense exchange with a journalist live
    on radio.

    The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge,
    an invitation-only set of catered waiting areas and services handed out by the
    airline in what has been called ‘Australia’s most exclusive club’.

    Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve Cannane
    that he was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a company that has illegally sacked hundreds of workers’.

    Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about
    what they think about that.’

    Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that Qantas
    illegally sacked 1,700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case brought by Transport
    Workers Union. 

    Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it a ‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas
    workers & their families’ in a Facebook post.
    ‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

    Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should
    be a little purer on this and just not take their (Qantas’s)
    hospitality?’

    Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such
    as this and argued that the party’s policies to tax big corporations heavily show the perks were not impacting the
    Greens.

    One flight was between Queensland regional centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March 7 but he
    also boarded a $15,000 private plane along the well-travelled Brisbane
    to Canberra route to attend his party’s election campaign launch.

    Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot seat with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being asked if he has included both his son and partner as ‘plus
    one’ Chairman’s Club members.

    He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international one he is
    alleged to have received from Qantas in new book The Chairman’s Lounge authored by former Australian Financial Review
    columnist Joe Aston.

    The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll,
    where they are battling to hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed to triple their representation in parliament.

    With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have retained the Brisbane seat of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.

    However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing to Labor with 64 per cent of votes counted.

    Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker – a role that won him the best actor Oscar in 2019 –
    in the wake of the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival last month.

    ‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it
    after the response it received from critics before it premiered,’ a
    source exclusively told DailyMail.com. 

    ‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so much respect for the DC comics fan base.’

    Joker: Folie à Deux has flopped at the box office, with the psychological musical thriller also landing the lowest
    CinemaScore for a comic book movie

    Gaga, real name is Stefani Germanotta, is
    hoping the Joker 2 flop will just be a small blip in her
    career, after the film received a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie. 

    Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters
    earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds the higher score of C+.

    Joker notably opened with $96.2 million on its theater release in 2019 and eventually took
    a little over $1 billion in the global box office. 

    The first movie – which was also directed by Phillips – had a
    budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget more than doubled
    to around $200 million for Folie À Deux. 

    The sequel screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month, where it
    earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.   

    It had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number drastically dropped amid mixed reviews before release. 

    Audiences have since shared their opinions on the sequel, which features multiple musical sequences. 

    ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this,’ wrote one on X.
    ‘What happened to the script?’

    Another user added: ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the original wasn’t a musical.’ 

    An insider told DailyMail.com: ‘Gaga is surprised

    ‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ shared a third, along with a monkey staring out a window.

    could in fact by the real Joker.

    But others did jump in in defense of the film, with one
    hailing it ‘amazing.’

    ‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to
    be,’ they continued. ‘I love that the film didn’t try to
    be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.

    It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other
    crowd pleasing aspects.’

    Another user said: ‘I kinda loved Joker 2.
    I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were
    a lot of fun.’

    Anthony Albanese has tried to claim his relationship with Alan Joyce was a strictly professional one between a Prime Minister and
    a corporate titan, as he battles claims the Qantas boss was his ‘personal travel agent’ for free flights and upgrades.

    However that characterization of the relationship
    was at odds with that made by Mr Joyce, who said he was ‘good mates’ with Mr Albanese and had been ‘for years’.

    In the wake of the explosive claims that the Prime Minister had Mr Joyce arrange free tickets and upgrades,
    Mr Albanese distanced himself from the Qantas chief.

    When asked about about their relationship on Sunday Mr Albanese implied it was purely in a professional capacity, having been Transport Minister
    and shadow transport spokesperson before becoming Prime Minister. 

    ‘He (Joyce) was the CEO of the national airline …
    I had the same relationship with him that I have with John Borghetti as
    the CEO of Virgin,’ Mr Albanese said.

    That assessment was at odds with the many photos
    showing Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce apparently greatly enjoying each other’s company. 

    Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce were pictured in high spirits on the
    red carpet at the Qantas 100th Gala Dinner in March
    last year.

    In photos from the event, Mr Joyce proudly walks the red carpet with one arm around the prime minister and the other around Mr Albanese’s partner, Jodie
    Haydon.

    Just five months later, in August, a smiling Mr Albanese attended Qantas’s unveiling of it’s special ‘Yes 23′ emblazoned airplanes for
    the Voice referendum.

    Mr Joyce was seen touching Mr Albanese’s arm, with the PM bursting
    into laughter.

    Even when Scott Morrison was PM,  Mr Joyce enjoyed an apparently
    close relationship with Mr Albanese as the pair stood close together at the launch of the Qantas’
    landmark Perth to London flight in March, 2018. 

    During a Senate hearing in September 2023, Mr Joyce said he had been ‘friends for years’ with Mr Albanese.

    Asked about why he gifted Mr Albanese’s son Nathan a
    membership to the prestigious and exclusive Chairman’s Lounge Mr Joyce refused
    to confirm or deny but talked up his relationship with the Prime Minister.

    ‘I’ve been good mates with Albo for some time,’ Mr
    Joyce said. 

    However, the then Qantas CEO refused to say whether he lobbied
    the Prime Minister on the controversial decision to lock competitor Qatar Airways out of domestic routes.

    It has since emerged in a new book about Qantas, The Chairman’s Lounge, by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston that Ms Haydon is also a Chairman’s
    Lounge member.

    Reports have emerged in a new book Mr Albanese received 22 upgrades
    from economy from Qantas and he would liaise personally with the
    former airline boss for them. 

    Aston also alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce
    while in his various parliamentary jobs to ask for special upgrades
    for himself or his family.

    According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr
    Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’
    and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los
    Angeles and Honolulu, with some being for holidays.

    Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that the London flights was for work purposes and all were
    ‘declared in the appropriate way’.    

    Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has leapt on the accusations describing
    Mr Albanese as being the ‘best friend’ of Mr Joyce. 

    Mr Dutton told Sky News on Monday night it was ‘strange’ Mr Albanese had directly contacted Mr
    Joyce to request upgrades while holding a regulatory
    position in the transport sector.

    ‘If you’re the Transport Minister and you’re picking up the phone to one of the most important
    stakeholders in the portfolio asking for a free upgrade, then again, I
    think the Prime Minister would be able to answer those questions more effectively than anyone else because I’m not aware of anyone else
    having done it,’ Mr Dutton said.

    It has since emerged that Ms Haydon also has membership of the
    Qantas Chairman’s Lounge

    The Prime Minister denied frequently asking Mr Joyce for upgrades on Tuesday at press conference in the NSW city of Newcastle.

    ‘The only discussions that I can recall with Alan Joyce certainly were not discussed through calls – we discussed the first flight from Australia to Dubai on the A380,
    ‘ he said.

    ‘I’ve declared everything in accordance with all of
    the rules.’

    Aston was asked on Monday night by ABC interviewer Sarah Ferguson about
    how confident he was that Mr Albanese had made calls personally to Mr
    Joyce for upgrades.

    ‘I am very comfortable with my sourcing,’ Aston said.

    Asked whether he thought Mr Albanese had been influenced by Mr Joyce’s lobbying to block UAE airline Qatar domestically
    Aston said it was ‘implausible’ to think that the Prime Minister’s office had nothing to do with the decision.

    ‘It’s very hard to imagine a decision of any political
    sensitivity in the Albanese government that would not go through

    He noted the opening up of the Australian domestic market Qatar had seemingly been sailing through
    with Transport Minister Catherine King speaking warmly about the proposal
    until ‘everything changed’ to stop it dead in tracks. 

     Ms King repeatedly denied in parliament the decision to block Qatar was
    due to Qantas lobbying her or any Labor colleagues.

    Despite Mr Albanese claiming he declared every upgrade received from
    Qantas the Australian Financial Review reported on Tuesday that he failed
    to do for his former wife Carmel Tebbutt when the two traveled
    together.

    Sky New host Sharri Markson on Monday night labeled Mr Joyce as ‘basically Albanese’s personal travel agent.’

    ‘This is all a question of integrity. Most Australians struggle to afford
    even an economy airfare. They’d never be able to afford the luxury
    of business class. It’s out of our reach,’ she said.

    ‘Can Albanese truly be impartial when it comes to making decisions
    about Qantas when he’s been getting tens
    of thousands of dollars worth of free upgrades to business
    class? The revelations puts the decision he
    made as transport minister and prime minister under a cloud.

    ‘Aside from the integrity issues, this revelation is also politically lethal.
    Albanese took care to curate a self-image of a housing commission boy who made it.

    But now the perception is cementing of a long-term pollie enjoying the perks of public office.’

    Another awkward paradox of Mr Albanese’s  apparent close relationship with Mr Joyce is that the Labor leader in a trade unionist
    advocate while Qantas attempted to break
    the power of the Transport Workers Union by sacking 1700 staff during Covid. 

    The sacking has since been ruled illegal by Federal Court in a case brought
    by the union with Qantas facing possible hundreds of thousands
    in compensation payouts. 

    The friendship however did find one perhaps unlikely
    defender in semi-retired 3AW radio star Neil Mitchell. 

    ‘Quick test: upgrade Albo is a bad look,’ Mitchell
    wrote on X.

    ‘But does anybody believe he was seriously compromised by having Alan Joyce as a
    bestie? Time to rewrite rules governing politicians.’

    Wallflowers get their name from their habit of growing near

    This is a fun activity to do with children or grandchildren. All you need

    Pop in your young wallflower, firm the earth around it and water well.

    ‘Bowles Mauve’ is light purple, while E. ‘Sunset Primrose’
    is a fragrant lemon yellow.

    Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity
    is at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?

    In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that the major parties look set to come together to support.

    The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates to prevent the equivalent of an arms race,
    and a $90million limit on what any party can spend
    at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.

    The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus
    increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first place.

    So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes
    – and the extent to which they can use their wealth at
    all will be limited.

    The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.

    At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get
    made – but you only find out the details of who has given what
    to whom many months later, well after elections are won and lost.

    In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result
    in much greater transparency and far less big money
    being injected into campaigning by the wealthy.

    Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’
    with the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’ 

    Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired a warning shot – saying if it serves only the major parties ‘it’s a rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock (right) said: ‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’

    Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed
    to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
    And how much they can donate will be capped.

    Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed
    new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not
    a reform’. 

    They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the opposition.

    I had to double check who was criticising what exactly
    before even starting to write this column.

    Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important
    transparency measures stamping out the influence
    of the wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to accountability.

    More fool me.

    The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.

    It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.

    Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive Palmer

    The major parties have long complained about the
    influence the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields
    behind the scenes amongst the Teals. 

    And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past, contrary
    to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules.

    Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile
    from reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.

    The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately, by the
    way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed
    to catch the crossbench out.

    They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand
    the changes before preparing for them.

    Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine the
    opposition want to go over the laws with a fine tooth comb.

    As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include
    hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create
    loopholes only the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to come.

    But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to
    get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is
    being advocated for.

    They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be incorporated in the
    package.

    To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary
    about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

    tobacco product application (PMTA) in the United States for its
    IQOS ILUMA product in October.

    The company at its investor day said that while the PMTA timeline remains “hard to predict”,
    it expects the launch of the ILUMA heated tobacco units towards the second half of its three-year forecast period of 2024
    to 2026.

    Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first time
    author dreams of – massive amounts of free publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio. 

    And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what was
    written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of how Qantas sold us out.

    Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to
    him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry,
    Aston told Daily Mail Australia his book is ‘not a hit job
    on Anthony Albanese’.

    Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had a direct line to
    Alan Joyce’.

    The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights by personally requesting them from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.

    According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22
    flights Mr Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu. 

    But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese
    chose to shoot the messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot. 

    He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said
    he was hiding his employment history. 

    ‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I
    don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime Minister said. 

    But before the book even gets to the contents page there is a photo of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications senior adviser.

    And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for
    then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook before Scott Morrison. 

    ‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of the first page of
    the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book launch. 

    Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s
    response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made. 

    ‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times with
    public figures and leaders who struggle to see their
    own part in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

    so many people are struggling to pay their mortgage or rent, the latest blow to his credibility has led
    to calls for him to resign.

    Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though.

    I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

    ‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour is
    quite normalised to him, is what I’ve seen. 

    ‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at
    the front row of the Australian Open Tennis. 

    ‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist
    almost every year for 12 years and he was the only
    Prime Minister (I saw there).

    ‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the International Grand Slam.
    He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.

    ‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite
    get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’

    In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked in economy,
    then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if their flight can be upgraded. 

    The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he
    had a very direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

    ‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight
    closes, you’ll get upgraded.

    ‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed.
    You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers
    going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

    ‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and the only person at Qantas who can issue those types of
    upgrades is the CEO. No other executive can do that.

    ‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades (for Anthony
    Albanese).’

    Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during his time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for politicians to get up there. 

    ‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too. Once
    you’ve experienced the front of the plane, it’s very hard to go back.

    ‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff
    and they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly in business, but they don’t
    get paid like CEOs …

    ‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane on personal travel. 

    ‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

    Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

    But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events. 

    Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

    ‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

    LONDON, Sept 6 (Reuters) – British American Tobacco (BAT) said on Tuesday a year-long
    study evaluating the potential harm reduction of using heated tobacco
    products compared to cigarettes will help expand
    the category of alternative “smoke-free” products.

    Tobacco companies are trying to attract new customers with alternative tobacco products as governments and public health
    campaigners make a concerted push towards a tobacco-free world.
    But scientists remain sceptical about the long-term health benefits.

    Heated tobacco products (HTPs) – such as BAT’s glo and key
    rival Philip Morris International’s IQOS – are envisioned to reduce the likelihood of developing diseases like lung
    cancer and cardiovascular conditions in smokers of traditional cigarettes who would not otherwise quit.

    HTPs heat tobacco without necessarily burning it,
    in effect exposing users to lower levels of some
    toxic chemicals than conventional cigarettes.

    BAT’s HTP study included more than 300 healthy adults who were divided into groups,
    including those who either continued smoking cigarettes or switched to using only glo, as well as never-smokers.

    The study website published in a medical journal, tracked biological indicators called biomarkers
    of the impact of certain cigarette smoke chemicals, via samples of
    blood, urine and other measurements taken every month.

    Researchers found “significant” reductions in biomarkers of select toxins in glo users, compared to those on conventional cigarettes.

    But how substantial these reductions are in reducing the likelihood of smoking-related diseases is still to be determined,
    Dr Sharon Goodall, BAT’s group head of regulatory science told Reuters.

    The biomarkers that have been measured in this study are based
    on chemicals known to be reduced in HTPs, but may not
    necessarily measure exposure to chemicals known to be higher
    in HTP emissions compared to cigarette smoke, said Sophie Braznell, a researcher at the University of
    Bath.

    Additionally, when something is perceived to carry relatively
    lower health risks, people sometimes increase their consumption of the product which can in extreme cases offset the potential health
    benefits, she said.

    This study does not represent the real world where the
    majority of HTP users smoke conventional cigarettes, noted Charlotta Pisinger, chair of the European Respiratory Society Tobacco
    Control Committee.

    It is worth noting that more than 40% of the group that
    switched to glo in the study were excluded from the final analysis
    because they started smoking, she said.

    That the study was funded and conducted by BAT
    also poses a major conflict of interest, added Dr. Esteve Fernández, head of the WHO Collaborating Center for Tobacco Control at
    the Catalan Institute of Oncology.

    To accelerate tobacco harm reduction, smokers need to switch from combustible products to alternatives as fast
    as possible, said Kingsley Wheaton, BAT’s chief growth officer told Reuters.

    Rain, 51, wore a brown velvet gown and donned stylish oversized shades as she posed with

    The film is the much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning Joker,
    which earned more than $1 billion at the global box office and remains
    the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

    The second instalment finds Arthur Fleck institutionalised at Arkham awaiting trial for
    his crimes as Joker.

    ‘While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur
    not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that’s
    always been inside him,’ a press release shared.

    The last time that Joaquin played The Joker, Arthur Fleck, he
    had to drop three and a half stone. He went on a diet of
    lettuce, asparagus and apples. 

    Five years later he has returned to the Oscar-winning role again in – and says that he had to
    lose almost the same amount of weight once more, and is
    never doing it again.

    Speaking at the Venice Film Festival he said: ‘I’m not going
    to talk through specifics of the diet, because I just think
    nobody wants to hear that.

    ‘But this time, it felt a bit more complicated just because there was so much dance rehearsal that we were doing, which I didn’t
    have last time. 

    ‘It felt a bit more difficult, but it is safe.
    But you’re right, I’m now 49, I probably shouldn’t do this again. This is probably it for
    me.’

    ‘So then you end up talking about it, and then it just sounds like an actor
    going on and on about how much weight they lost.

    ‘By the end of that run I was so sick of myself and angry at myself
    for making such a big deal about that part, because you just
    do what you’re ****ing supposed to do. So this time I was like, ‘I’m not going to do that’.’
