Francopat Needs to Stop Harassing Labianca

For many industries, competition creates more value for customers. Competition creates an avenue for multiple investment streams, more jobs, and accelerated economic growth. At the very least, competition leads to innovation which helps improve people’s lives.
However, for some players in the Imported frozen food Industry in Ghana, the essence of competition is a threat to their survival, hence the need to destroy the hard-earned reputation of others.
Their lack of growth does not encourage innovation for change; for some, the burning desire to destroy other businesses by foul means remains the only option to achieve relevance and growth.
This cowardice approach seems to be the path chosen by Francopat as the business continues to parade documents to destroy Labianca Company limited, the category leader in the frozen import business.
As confirmed by Hannah Bissiw, a former Deputy Minister of Agriculture under the previous John Mahama administration, the consistent negative attacks on Labianca have been orchestrated by Francopat.
According to insiders, Francopat has spent the past years parading documents of Labianca across offices, looking for individuals to help tarnish the company’s hard-earned reputation.
So bizarre has been the approach that email accounts of Labianca’s partners in Europe have been hacked and business communication between Labianca and its partners has been circulated with the hope of tarnishing the image of the company. Whilst these have failed to stick, the company continues to grasp at straws in the hope to do damage to LaBianca
According to a former Deputy Minister of Agric, some of the documents being paraded around by the owner of Francopat were part of some everyday phenomena in the frozen import industry. As the former minister disclosed on Neat FM, an Accra-based Radio station, Frank Owusu, popularly called FrancoPat, was behind the Special Prosecutor’s focus on Labianca Company Limited and other recent purported investigations by some media houses.
Reports gathered by sources close to the major supplies of frozen foods to Ghana point to the fact that competitors have made similar attempts and overtures to get them to cancel contracts with Labianca with the hope that Francopat gets to expand its import value.
This selfish and disingenuous approach only seeks to play to the unfortunate desires of one company as against the investment, jobs created, and the contribution of Labianca to the economy.
As indicated by Hannah Bissiw and corroborated by other high-ranking political figures, global suppliers, and many other Ghanaian business entities who have been approached by Francopat and his cohorts, the desperation of the business to see Labianca shut down is too glaring. Especially when all companies within the frozen food space benefit from the same rules and reliefs

ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight
supper and there are many ways to serve them (see tip). The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap
it out for all beef, or flavourful pork mince. This is a good way to use up any day-old
bread hanging around. The recipe is easy to double up
on and freeze so you have a meal for an emergency.
SERVES 4
4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
400g tin chopped tomatoes
200g white bread (day old, if possible)
whole milk (enough to soak the bread)
500g beef mince
250g English veal mince
2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve
4 anchovies, finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)
1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash
of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped onion and half
the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and
when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to a simmer and leave to
cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes,
to create a thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.
2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft. In another bowl,
mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies,
half the parsley and the rest of the onions and garlic. Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any
excess milk from it first. Mix well and season with salt
and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.
3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium
heat. When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about
5 minutes) to ensure they colour all over. If necessary, cook in batches so they are not
all squashed together, setting each batch aside on a plate while
you cook the remainder.
4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes to cook through.
Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.
TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according to the packet instructions until al dente.
Drain it in a colander, reserving a cupful of the cooking water to
loosen the meatball sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back to the pan and toss it
with a little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti on a serving
plate and top with the meatballs and sauce. Finish with a
drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan.

Lady Gaga is set to release her seventh studio album in February.
Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at No.
27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with her
next album, which she described as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’
Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga said that she’s been focused on the production side of her new songs.
‘I love producing — I always have — and something
that was really important to me making my seventh studio album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’ she explained.
‘The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is
genre-bending, and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.’
She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound that’s more in line with her iconic
2009 album, The Fame Monster.
However, fans need not be worried that Gaga is going too somber with her sound.
‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very fun and meant to be enjoyed at a party, in a club,
or at home having personal fun time — to be free of your
worries at home or walking through life,’ she insisted.
Lady Gaga is focused on releasing her seventh studio album this February following the
disappointing reception to lead single Disease
Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month to rave reviews
from music critics, who lauded it as a return to the
star’s roots.
Unfortunately, the acclaim failed to translate to the charts, with
Disease debuting at No. 27 on the Hot 100 – her worst entry
for a lead single in 16 years.
On the bright side, Gaga is currently enjoying one of her
biggest hits in years thanks to her Bruno Mars duet, Die With a Smile.
The ballad has so far reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 and No.
1 on the Pop Airplay Chart.
It comes after Gaga’s leading role in the disastrous Joker: Folie à Deux.
The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix
as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley
Quinn), faced negative reviews from critics before
its October 4 release and flopped at the box office.
Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd
Philips’s new film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it was ‘going to bomb’ while filming.

Jackie O Henderson has left her father Tony red-faced after a shocking stunt in which he was tricked into reading about her threesome live on-air.

‘Am I amazed? Probably not,’ he said.
‘I’m sort of trying to take all of this in. After all, its my daughter we’re talking about.
If it was somebody else, it would be a different story altogether.
I’d be so excited.
‘I’ve been round the block a few times. I understand how these things happen.’
Another passage in the book revealed a very awkward encounter between Phil’s
male flatmate and Jackie’s mother Julie.
‘My mum came over once and when no one answered the door, she
put her face to the screen to see inside and that flatmate was right there in the living room, pants down, w***ing,’ a shocked Tony read.
The revelations come after Jackie spoke for the first time
about her years-long battle with drugs which saw her secretly go
to rehab at The Betty Ford Clinic in November in 2022.
During a tearful on-air admission, Jackie said at the height of her addiction, she took around 10-12 Stilnox/Ambien sleeping pills and 24 Panadeine Forte painkillers a day.

Former first lady Melania Trump said she was completely comfortable
with posing nude during her modeling days.
In her memoir Melania, which was released Tuesday, she recounts how her nude photos
were put on the cover of The New York Post during the
closing weeks of the 2016 presidential election.
The tabloid used the ‘disgusting heaadline,’ as Melania described it,
‘Menage à Trump.’
‘My upbringing in Europe had fostered a different perspective on nudity, a more open and accepting
attitude,’ she wrote. ‘We were accustomed to beaches where nudity was commonplace, a natural and uncontroversial aspect of life.’
She noted how ‘attitudes toward the female body in the United States were starkly different.’

The controversial photos were from a 1996 photoshoot from a now defunct French fashion magazine called Max.

for the sole purpose of damaging Donald’s campaign.’
She wrote that the photos ‘were not a source of shame for me.’
‘The female form was once revered and honored in Western culture.

that exalted the beauty of the feminine figure. Nudity was a medium through which humanity was elevated and celebrated,’ Melania sid.
‘This sentiment resonated deeply with me when I posed for Vogue during my
pregnancy,’ she wrote.
Throughout the book she mentions her working relationship
with Vogue and its longtime top editor Anna Wintour.
These days Wintour is actively supporting former President Donald Trump’s Democratic
rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

but was angered that her nude modeling photos
were used to try to hurt her husband’s first presidential campaign
‘I believed then, as I do now, that women should take pride in their bodies,
not feel shame,’ Melania continued.
‘During my modeling days, posing nude was commonplace and hardly scandalous,’ she said.
‘To me, those images were artistic and tasteful, fitting for a
publication like Max, which showcased many renowned super-models.’
But there was another problem with the photographer selling the photos of Melania to the newspaper – he originally said the photoshoot happened
a year before.
‘This misinformation led to unfounded allegations that I had
illegally worked in the United States, a claim propagated by the New
York Post,’ she wrote.
‘Although the photographer later admitted the error, the damage
was done – sensationalized lies about me spread worldwide, driven by
a shameful pursuit of scandal and profit,’ the former first
lady added.

Smile 2 – starring Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage and Jack Nicholson’s son Ray – emerged as the winner after a
horror movie box office showdown.
The fright flick eclipsed hot contender Terrifier 3 for the top spot.
The Smile sequel starring Scott, 31, as a pop star who begins
experiencing terrifying and inexplicable events as she prepares for a world tour, opened wide
in more than 3,600 theaters, pulling in a payday of $23 million.
Ray, whose mom is Nicholson’s former partner Rebecca Broussard, shocked
fans with an eerie grin in the new movie, which was near-identical to the Oscar-winner’s maniacal smile as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley
Kubrick classic, The Shining.
In a legendary scene, an insane Jack hacks at a bathroom door with an axe
as his cowering wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) screams inside.
As he busts a hole in the door, he sticks his face
through, grins and exclaims: ‘Here’s Johnny!’ in an improvised line.
The original Smile, released in September 2022, and starring Sosie
Bacon, was a sleeper hit, which was well received
and earned $217,408,513 globally.
Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes
and an 83-percent Popcornmeter rating from audiences.

fell below her waist. On her head was the largest of the Londonderry tiaras, so big it was known in the family as ‘the fender’.
Pale rays illuminate the top-lit gallery of Londonderry house
Beside her stood her handsome husband Charles, the seventh Marquess of Londonderry, and the Prime Minister, Lloyd George.
That November night in 1919 was Edith Londonderry’s first Eve of Parliament reception, a tradition that continued for 20-odd
years.
The Marchioness of Londonderry wears ‘the fender’ to greet guests, 1934
Londonderry House, like many of London’s great houses, was
built for entertaining. In the 18th and 19th centuries, most
aristocrats and others who lived on their estates for much of the year had a town house to which they migrated for ‘the Season’ – those summer months filled with balls and parties,
when débutantes were presented at court and launched into ‘society’ in the hope of making a splendid marriage.
The ballroom, Devonshire House
These houses were as magnificent as their owners could manage.
Built and decorated by the most talented of the age, they
were sumptuously furnished – walls were hung with silk, damask and wonderful paintings – and often embellished with marble statuary.
The mustard-yellow drawing rooms of Londonderry House were filled
with blue Sèvres vases and gold plate; in the entrance hall stood a Canova statue
of Theseus and the Minotaur (now in the Victoria and Albert Museum).
Suites of rooms, with a ballroom at one end, could be flung open for
entertaining.
Georgiana Cavendish (1757-1806), a lover of gambling – and threesomes
Today most of these palatial mansions have been pulled down or turned into blocks of flats.
With their disappearance went their furnishings, objets and paintings.
But what their wonderful rooms looked like can be seen in London: Lost Interiors, a book compiled from superb black-and-white photographs of these amazing houses, some of which belonged to aristocratic landowners,
others to plutocrats or society figures.
The drawing room, Grosvenor House
Most of the townhouses – those used for the Season rather than permanent residences – were
clustered round Park Lane, Mayfair or on Piccadilly, like Devonshire House.
Here once lived the fifth Duke of Devonshire and his wife
Georgiana (pronounced jaw-janer), whom he had married in 1774 when she was just 17.
She was a celebrated beauty who quickly became a leader of fashion, famous for her towering hairstyles three feet high, decorated with birds, fruit,
even ships in sail. The couple spent 20 years in a ménage
à trois with Lady Elizabeth Foster, Georgiana’s close friend, who was also the Duke’s mistress.
Meanwhile, Georgiana’s gambling led to mounting debts:
on her death in 1806 they were found to
be the equivalent of £4 million in today’s money.
The rich, restless second Duke of Westminster, AKA Bendor, in his 20s
Another Park Lane mansion was Grosvenor House, belonging to
the dukes of Westminster and one of the largest in London, as befitted
the family’s status and wealth (their huge fortune came from
their ownership of Mayfair). Bendor, the blond and handsome
second duke (1879-1953) was known as one of the richest men in England, lavishing
jewels on his mistresses, chief among whom was Coco Chanel.
The picture gallery, Grosvenor House
A restless soul, Bendor would arrive without warning at any of his houses (or yachts).
All were kept ready: cars fuelled, silver polished, servants in livery.
But after the First World War, during which Grosvenor House had been requisitioned as a hospital, land prices had
risen so high that even for Bendor it had become uneconomic and he
sold it. It was demolished in 1927 and the Grosvenor House Hotel was built on the site.
Designer Oliver Messel, Devonshire House, 1934
At the other end of the scale was 8 Pelham Place, the South Kensington home
of Cecil Beaton from 1940 to 1975. Superbly furnished by this
brilliant photographer, it was described loftily by the
diarist Chips Channon (for whom the word ‘snob’ could have been invented – in his diaries he declares, ‘I am only really happy
with royalty’) as ‘a tiny but super-attractive snuffbox of a house’.
Beaton, himself no social slouch, ran him close: at his parties the women often wore stiletto heels, which pitted the floor, and later he would point them out, saying, ‘That’s Princess Marina, that’s
Julie Andrews, that’s Vivien Leigh…’
French furnishings at 8 Pelham Place, the South Kensington home of Cecil Beaton
Beaton’s near neighbour in Pelham Place, until the mid-60s, was the great stage
designer Oliver Messel. When Messel’s nephew Tony Armstrong-Jones (later Lord Snowdon) became engaged to Princess Margaret, Messel laid on a lunch, asking the Princess
if there was anyone she would particularly

Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing,
homewares, food, and electronics.
The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up
around Victoria to help shoppers get through the cost of
living crisis ravaging the country.
Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity that works to provide support
and assistance to people in need.
Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners including Christmas decorations.
Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags
of Red Rock Deli chips, and discounted shoes from Boston Bros.
Shoppers will find men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, shoes from top brands, and even electrical goods at
the Vinnies pop-up locations.
Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas
shoes, printers, and kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops.
There is presently a location in Ascot Vale which
is open until 3 November, and another in Boronia which will remain open until Christmas – or until stock runs out.
