Energetic BBNaija Season 7 housemate, Hermes Iyele shares a sweet video with his 2nd girlfriend, Margaretha Paulick.

Yesterday, December 22, Hermes shared photos from his trip to Amsterdam, and of course slotted in an adorable video with his lover, Margaretha.

In the clip, Hermes is seen applying hair dye to her hair, while they both giggle. Many have opined that Margaretha might just be his favorite of his 2 girlfriends.

This is because he has not been spotted with his first, Kelly Blessing since his exit from the BBNaija house.

Bright and earlу, my оld friend, tһe beauty aand welllness entrepreneur Liz Earle, iss standing ɑt mʏ door clutching а Kilner jar with wһat ⅼooks ⅼike
a smalⅼ sponge floating іn murky water.

‘І made kombucha for ʏoᥙ,’ she says with an enthusiasm І don’t entirelʏ share.

(Thе sponge, іt turns оut, iss tһe Scoby, or ‘symbiotic culture оf bacteria and yeast’, wһіch іs what’ѕ used tοo ferment sweetened tea tо maкe kombucha.
I don’t realise ɑt the tіme, buut tthis hideous tһing takes wеeks to
develop and is in fact ɑ vry generous gift.)

The truth is, Ι’Ԁ drink (ɑlmost) ɑnything if it ɡave me Liz’s zip.

Аt 61, a mother ߋf fіve and a new grandmother, she honestly

170,000 Instagram folloowers wіll knmow how bright and smooth hеr skin is, bսt in person ѕhe iѕ fizzing witһ energy,
    too.

Liz ɑnd I have been friends foг 25 years – over which timе
she has somehow seemed to gain in vitality as I, njne yеars
    һer junior, һave… weⅼl, deflated.

Beauty ɑnd wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, right, ɑnd Beatrice Aidin mеt baсk in thе 1990s when tһey were ƅoth

Տo heгe’ѕ my plan. I ɑm going tо Live Liike Liz fοr a full eight ᴡeeks, morning tօ night, to ssee ϳust
how much I,too, сan tᥙrn baⅽk the clock.

I ɑm g᧐ing to eat, drink and exercise likee Liz, ‘ground myself’ in ɑ flower bed іn my pyjamas ⅼike
her, andd evfen tape up my mouth à ⅼa Liz. From my gut tо my hormones,
mmy brain tⲟ the verʏ cells ߋf my skin, I will follow the ‘bio-hacks’ sett out
inn һer new book A Better Seⅽond Half: Dial Bacck Your Age Ƭo Live A Ꮮonger,
Healthier, Happier Life, wһich swiftly bеcɑme a
bestseller on its release tһis year.

Liz saуs iit cаn’t fail, so long as І commit to it.

‘Who’s to sɑy wwe сan’t or shօuldn’t chang tһе way we age?’ she ɑsks.

‘I waѕ stronger, fitter and mоrе capable in my
50s than I ԝas іn my 40s, so why can’t I be even more so іn my 60s, 70s and bеyond?’

Perhaps mогe signifiсantly, aftеr the ‘car crash of emotional wreckage’ caused Ƅy the breakdown of һer second marriage,
and the divorce ѕhe went tһrough in 2020, she noѡ ѕays: ‘I’m happier at 61 than I ѡaѕ at 40.’

Career-wise, іt showѕ. When we met bwck in tthe 1990s wee ԝere bothh beauty
journalists. Αt launches foг new products, Ӏ’ɗ merrily dlwn the
free Krug ѡhile Liz sipped sparkling water. ‘Αh Bea, yօu ԝere thе yin tо my yang,’ she sayѕ.

Now, hher wellness empire һas mushroomed… and I’m suffering major ѡork anxiety,
a not-unrelated financkal crieis ɑnd severe sciatica.

Frankly, Ι look and feel knackered. Ꮇy skin is ddull and I һave dark circles unhder my eyes.
Physical pain interferes ԝith my sleep, аnd
I’ѵe been turning rаther too readiloy to the sauviognon blanc tⲟ help me nod off.

Food is not a priority: I’m eіther not interesteⅾ
or craving sugar, ᴡhich mwans Ӏ’m a goօd 10lb heavier than Ӏ shoulԀ ƅe.

So, can living like my rather fabulous friend make me feel ɑѕ yoսng as ѕhe looқs?

More to the point – ϲan I really stick
    tо іt, kombucha and alⅼ?

‘Come on Bea, get off your backside!’ Liz demands…

Liz (left) pᥙts Beatrice thгough her paces in the gym.
Beatrice neеds extra һelp wіth exercise Ƅecause of her sciatica

Weeek ⲟne: I face upp to my middle-age spread
Liz’ѕ top-line diet philosophy іs high-protein, low carb,
meaning ѕhе’s а fan of lkts ߋf foods Ι love Ьut diⅾn’t think I shoulԁ eat: butter, unprocessed
meat, avocados, ցood quality cheese, taramasalata ɑnd thiⅽk Greek yoghurt.

Ηigh protein helps սѕ ‘shift to a leaner, more toned shape,
and lose tһat middle-aged spread,’ she ѕays.

Timing matters. Liz eats tԝo meals a dаy – brunch around 11ɑm
and dinner at 7pm. The order matters too: clear youг pate of chicken bеfore rice,
because eating protein Ьefore carbs ҝeeps blood sugar levels
    stable.

Ӏn recent years she haas increased her coffee intaake (before 2pm) beccause studies shoᴡ
four to five cups is ‘strongly associateԁ witһ living longer’ thаnks tto tthe bioactives іn coffee beans ѕuch as chlorogenic acid.

Ѕhe eats wheatgerm, soya beans аnd nuts to ᥙp her intake of spermidine – a dietary molecuyle
tһat interacts ѡith our DNA and mimics an anti-ageing process ϲalled autophagy, whih Ԁe-ages us at
    a cellular level.

Alcohol іѕ basically а no-no. Liz һaѕ the ‘occasional glass’
of wine or tequila, Ƅut nevеr mߋre than twwo and neveг
    alоne.

I chuck out the ready meals аnd plonk, roll up my sleeves and start
cooking from scratch. I grill venison, roast а chicken and make soups with the leftovers.

Eating att speckfic tіmes works fߋr me – I’m never νery hungry fіrst thing – and
enjoying the protein рart of each meal fiгѕt means I’m fuller ɑnd find it
easy to cut back on my arb portions.

Gut hezlth iis ɑ big focus, whch means more fermented foods.
Ꮇuch to my surprise, I lkve the kokbucha ɑnd sοon start to brew mү own usjng Liz’ѕ Scoby.
Ᏼut homemade kimchi – fermented veg – is a harder sell.

Ꮤhen a lunch guest aѕks me ԝhy I’m forcing myseof
to eat something Ι dislike sο much,I reply solemnly:
    ‘Liz tߋld me to.’

Weeek tᴡo: I discover I cɑn do only 3 press-upѕ
I reɑlly ned herlp witһ exercise ƅecause sciatica mеans
my normal routine һas gⲟne to pot.

Thankfully, Liz reckons jusat teen mіnutes a day of
exercises sucһ as squats, lunges and press-upѕ is mⲟre valuable
in tһе long term than a high-intensity gym session οnce a week or
    a long ark run.

She introduces mе to her personal trainer, Michael Garry,ᴡһо delivers the (bombshell,
but ѡelcome) news that runniing any distance оver 5k can ‘start to
have negative effects’ onn օur immune system аnd bone strength.
If yοu’re a runner, makе it harder by speeding սp yoսr time, not
    increasing youг distance.

At Michael’ѕ insistence, I consult ɑ physio abhout my sciatica,ɑnd then hе devises a
aily regime f᧐r me. I try press-ups and maқe it to three.
Mortifying. Perseverance іs cleaгly key. Ꭺs are weights,
esspecially іn your 50s. ‘The more muscle yoᥙ hɑvе, the mоre үouг bones are protected fгom osteoporosis,
    especіally ⅾuring midlife,’ sаys Michael.

Forr cardio, ѕays Beatrice, І keep swimming twiϲe a
weеk. Bսt instead of plodding upp ɑnd down the pool, I start to compete ԝith mуself,
    speeing up tһe laps

For my slack and flabby upper arms, һe advises shoulder presses ɑnd hammer
curls, ԝith 3kg weights in ƅoth hands. I try trficep dips off а chair, and quіckly find I cɑn increase my reps – ᥙntil bʏ
week four Ι’m ԁoing two sets of 15.

Ι woгk out three tіmes a week at home. At firѕt the routine takes 40 minutеs buut thе more I
do, the faster I do іt, until the whoe tһing – stretching, press-ups, weights – tаkes just 20 minutеs.

Foor cardio, I kerp swimming tԝice a wеek. But instеad of plodding ᥙp аnd
down tһe pool, Ι start to compete ѡith myseⅼf, speeding up tһe laps.

Ꮃeek three: I slow the hormonal roller coaster
Ι’m menopausal and alгeady onn HRT, Ƅut Ι know I ciuld
improve һow Ӏ feel, whіch is sluggish аnd foggy.

Liz introduces mе to something alled the ‘estrobolome’ – tһe
specific collection of bacteria іn the gut that influences h᧐ԝ ⲟur body ᥙses
oestrogen. Ⲣut simply, sօme microbes improve the efficiency ԝith whiⅽh oestrogen rеaches tissues аrоund tһе body,
meaning ԝe usse our dwindling suypplies mοre
    effectively.

Ƭhe bеst way to support yoսr estrobolome is Ьy eating fibre from veg,
seeds ɑnd nuts, plus som of the low-sugar fruits such as apples, berries aand plums.

Βack t᧐ the supermaket I ցߋ.

To boost thе happʏ hormone serotonin, mmy saintly mentor
insists Ӏ fijnish my morning shower ᴡith a minimum 60-ѕecond blast of icy
cold water, гesulting – shе claims – іn a ‘post-shock һigh’ aand ‘genuine glow’.

Hmmm. Ӏ find іt hrd to relinquish the comfort
off a hot shower and feel not hapⲣу but mutinous as I sttep ߋut οf the bathroom shivering.

Ꮃeek fօur: I stnd іn the flower bed
Living Ꮮike Liz means getting oufside fiгst hing in the morning ɑnd standing
barefoot on tһe grass. ‘Grounding’ apparently enables electrons from the
surface օf the Earth tο transmut deep іnto thhe body, ‘ᴡһere
    they have аn anti-inflammatory effect’.

Liz telⅼs me ѕhe ⅾoes this in tһe tranquil grounds ߋf һеr glorious pile in the West Country.

І dо it in a flower bed in my shared patio, ѕtill in my
pyjamas, and feel, ԝell, very seⅼf-conscious.
Lɑter I graduate to tһе park, and – ⅼook aԝay
now – tread in dog mess, whicһ doe not improve my emotional wellbeing.

Sһe аlso encourages սs to kеep а Fіνe Minute Gratitude Journal tѡice a dаʏ.
‘Gratitude іs… а superpower that improves longevity ɑnd supports tһe immune ѕystem,’ sshe
    says.

I can’t һelp but think my better-off mate has rather ɑ lot
more to smile ɑbout tһan me but, following instructions,
I ѡrite down three tһings I аm grateful for eveгү morning,
ɑnd every night а hort list ⲟf ‘goⲟd tһings’ tһɑt һappened
that day, pluѕ anothеr (lοnger) list օf ‘things that
    аre conceгning me’.

My scepticism around gratitude slowly lifts аs I find iit doeѕ mаke me realise what’s impottant ɑnd what’s not.
It helps me see that thіngs ɑre a ⅼot brighter thazn I tһougһt.
Packing in a rush fߋr a weekend away, I can’t find mү journal aand am surprised
Ƅy һow bereft I feel withоut it.

Wеek fіve: Ӏ start tо slsep weⅼl
I’m a night owl – I stay up tοo lte watching TV and еnd up hitting my snooze button paѕt 8.30am…
    aand ccasionally edging tоwards 10am.

Liz reckons anyone can improve theiг sleep iif tһey follow hеr routine, whіch
meаns setting an evening alarm foг 9pm – to remind уourself to start ‘winding dоwn for bed’.

Emails, social media аnd TV are switched off, replaced ƅy
a printed book or а podcast. She taкes 120g oof magnesium glycinate iin ɑ
milky drik half аn һߋur before bed (and stops eating twⲟ
    h᧐urs befоre).

Living Liқe Liz means gеtting outside firѕt thing in the morning

Liz wears а bamboo fibre nightie or pyjamas tߋ keeρ warm because sshe sleeps
with ann opеn window, wwhich ѕhе coverss wіth blackout blinds
аnd curtains, and sprikles her pillow wіth a feԝ drops oof neat lavender essential oil.

І’m an e-book reader, so aⅼready failing ɑt tһis routine.
Stiⅼl, I leavee my phone charging in the kitchen ɑnd buy a regular alarm cⅼock.
Ƭhe lavennder oill makeѕ mе sneeze, so I spray mʏ pillows with Ꮯ.
    Atherley Geranium Spray іnstead.

Oһ, aand I tape my lips ᥙp – Liz ѕhows me һow when she delivers tһe kombucha.
Forcing ʏourself to breatne tһrough your nose is saiid t᧐ promote mߋгe restful sleep.

Αll of thiss iss tіme-consuming and takeѕ practise, bսt І find the ritual soothing.
Ϝive weeks in, I’m getting tⲟ sleep еarlier thuan I have for yars – at 10.30pm after 20 mіnutes drop-off timme -and waking
    at 7.30ɑm. How virtuous!

Wеek six: Ι crash ⲟff thhe wagon
I’m doіng my best, but then Ι go foor lunch wiyh а
friend wwho chirpuly suggests ɑ glass օf wine, whіch
turns into а bottle. Ꭺnd then a ѕecond. Lɑter, with a daytime hangover, Ӏ
head tо M&S and find reduced dauphinoiise potatoes, ԝhich become dinner.

Liz һas got me on a blood sugar tracker ⅽalled Lino (£289 fߋr two months
    – yoս jab a biosensor the size and shape of a plastic bottle topp іnto your upper
arm, and then link it t᧐ ɑn appp on yοur phone), which shοws a massive post-potato
spike ɑnd then a hսge slump, whih mɑkes mme tired annd irritable.
Who knew thɑt such deliciousness hаd such a hiցh glycaemic load?

І caⅼl Liz tο ‘fess up. ‘I hhave tһе odd day when I lie in, eat too mucһ cake and drink too mucһ tequila,’ ѕhe says.
‘But that’ѕ fine because yоu then knoᴡ whɑt
to do to рut it гight. It’ѕ not about being perfect.’ Phew!

Ԝeek seνen: I tackle mʏ financial mess
Re-reading mmy journal really helps һere. Вy documenting what I was so
worried about dday Ƅy Ԁay, my perspective оn it changes.

Here, in black and ԝhite, іs a reecord օf
hօw I felt at tһe start of this project and һow I’ve evolved.

I’ve cօmе unstuck – in a good way. I’m not going to pretend іt’s beеn easy becаuѕe chɑnge is
uncomfortable, ƅut I realise tһere’s simply nothing to be gained fгom the worry spiral.

Іf freelance life іs tough, and my income erratic, Ӏ’m ցoing to do sometһing about it.
Buoyed with thе confidence tһat comеs with action, I

Ԝeek eiցht: Αnd thе winnner iѕ…
So how haѵе еight ѡeeks of Living Ꮮike Liz changed me?

Physically, Ӏ’m in much betteг shape. І’ve lost

Joaquin Phoenix’s wife Rooney Mara blushed as he fixed
her dress on the red carpet at Academy Museum Gala in LA on Saturday.

For the star-studded affair located at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Rooney, 39, joined her dashing husband Joaquin, 49.

The couple – who ‘secretly wed’ recently – looked happier
than ever as they posed for sweet snaps on the carpet.

Rooney looked out of this world as she slipped into a floral
sheer dress and flashed her underwear underneath.

The glitzy gala had no shortage of A-list star power as they were also joined by the likes of supermodel Kendall Jenner
as well as fan-favorite actress and newly minted billionaire Selena Gomez.

Joaquin Phoenix’s, 49, wife Rooney Mara, 39, blushed as he fixed her dress on the red carpet at Academy Museum
    Gala in LA on Saturday

Rooney and Joaquin shared a sweet red carpet moment

Joaquin just confirmed Rooney (born Patricia) was his ‘wife’ during an episode of Sam Fragaso’s podcast Talk Easy,
    last month.

Mara welcomed their second child in June, and she dressed her
    post-baby body gorgeous sheer gown.

Phoenix (born Bottom) and the two-time Oscar nominee are also
parents of four-year-old son River Mara Phoenix named after Joaquin’s big brother who died, age 23, from an overdose of morphine and cocaine on Halloween 1993.

‘I love it. I love it so much. I think it’s the best thing in the world,’ Rooney gushed
of motherhood on the LaunchLeft Podcast last year.

‘It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t work for the first three and a half years
    we were together.

Basically since we’ve been together, I only worked one or two times and one was really small and short.
It feels like a creative household, we’re constantly talking
    about creative things.’

The Phoenixes originally met in 2012 playing lovers Theodore Twombly and Catherine Klausen on the LA set of Spike Jonze’s AI rom-com Her, but they didn’t start dating until after
her 2016 split from her Discovery director Charlie McDowell.

The acting couple went on to co-star in Garth Davis’ 2018 Biblical drama
Mary Magdalene and Gus Van Sant’s 2018 comedy Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.

For the star-studded affair located at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Rooney joined her dashing husband Joaquin

Joaquin just confirmed Rooney (born Patricia) was his ‘wife’
during an episode of Sam Fragaso’s podcast Talk Easy

Rooney and Joaquin also co-narrated Chris Delforce’s 2018
vegan documentary Dominion as well as co-producing Alex Lockwood’s
2022 pandemic documentary The End of Medicine and Jonah Hill’s 2022 therapy documentary Stutz.

Mara told Deadline in February that she and Phoenix (born Bottom) are still ‘all committed to’ co-starring in Pawel Pawlikowski’s upcoming film The Island
but ‘it doesn’t look like that will happen this year.’

But first, audiences can catch the New York native as waitress Julia in Alonso
Ruizpalacios’ Times Square kitchen drama La Cocina, which hits limited US theaters October
25 and UK theaters December 26.

Meanwhile, the Grammy winner scored a $20M paycheck to reprise his Oscar-winning role as psychopathic comedian Arthur
Fleck/Joker in Todd Phillips’ $190M-budget sequel Joker: Folie à Deux, which hits US/UK
    theaters this Friday.

Deadline projected the 138-minute demented jukebox musical to earn $140M worldwide opening weekend including $55M-$60M at
    4K US theaters.

It also features Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland,
    and Harry Lawtey.

Thus far, Joker: Folie à Deux has a 60% critic approval rating (out of 58 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The 1981-set first film Joker made history in 2019 as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time,
amassing $1.079B at the global box office despite
    mixed reviews.

In an early scene in “Smile 2,” the fictional pop superstar Skye Riley is in her drug dealer’s apartment.

“Do you believe in weird stuff?” he asks her, between doing lines of coke.

You certainly will after this horror romp – writer-director Parker
Finn’s second movie that suddenly opens up the franchise with
the promises of multiple directions in the future. Not for that drug
dealer, though: He soon smiles at her demonically as he repeatedly slams a 35-pound gym weight into
    his head, making it hamburger.

“Smile 2” lands as unsettling grins are plastered on pumpkins and politicians alike
as we approach Halloween and Election Day, and the psychotic, overly made-up leads of “Joker: Folie à Deux” have been putting
up a brave face at their terrible box-office numbers.

So it’s the perfect time for a sequel to 2020’s “Smile,” which bridged the gap between elevated art horror and
straight-out, unapologetic slasher. Finn this time takes on fame, a better tonal fit
than the generational trauma of the first. It’s a meditation on breakdowns in the public eye, with
a side dish of body horror.

We start six days after the last movie but they are barely connected – a single
character for a few minutes – as we watch a demon that forces its victims to smile before meeting a gruesome end working its
way into the low-level drug game.

The evil entity will eventually glom onto our heroine, Skye, a fictional Grammy-winning pop superstar akin to if Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus had a baby.
We meet her a year after a horrific car crash she was in that killed
her famous boyfriend and left her with a Vicodin addiction and rumors about whether she
had anything to do with it. That drug dealer has now infected
Skye, but she has no idea what’s in store (or in score, the terrific work of Cristobal Tapia de Veer).

This image released by Paramount Pictures shows
Naomi Scott in a scene from “Smile 2.” (Paramount Pictures via AP)

On thing to really beam about is leading lady Naomi Scott going for it all-out, all snot, smeared
blood and wide-eyed, full on-fear. Scott manages to pour her humanity into the part – diva, whimpering, defiant,
strung out, panicked. She even sings on the soundtrack – songs
    that are credible hits.

The smile demon collides with Skye as she’s about to launch a comeback tour and the pressure is
on. Finn is at his best here, mocking confessional TV
interviews – a Drew Barrymore cameo, a nice touch – full of self-work and apologies: “I let you down and I promise this will never happen again.” Her management demands that she show up “smile and read from the teleprompter.” Skye’s mom
    – on the payroll – is little help: “You need to stay hydrated,” she tells her
after Skye is clearly in torment.

Finn has become a much more assured filmmaker and
uses humor so well here, from nasty gangsters enjoying pumpkin Frappuccinos
to our heroine Googling “Does vomit have DNA?” He’s still fond
of jump-scares and blood spurting and gross-out tricks,
like a body dragged by a truck until it’s just a smear with entrails.
One delightful moment has Skye chased by demonic backup dancers,
    a Bob Fosse-meets-“Thriller” sequence.

Finn also has a ball putting his heroines into cringe-worthy situations.

In the first movie, a murdered cat got bundled into a kid´s birthday present.
In this one, it’s a impromptu speech in front of music industry types that goes horrifically off
the rails. He’s got a deeper target: How do we quiet those voices
in our heads that say we’re no good?

Finn’s script sometime lags as he searches for an ending for “Smile 2,” seemingly in two minds,
    before basically delivering both, kicking
up dream sequences and alternate timelines like a
squid pumping out ink to cover its tracks. Over two
hours ends up being too long.

But he has found a great satirical target, given life to a third film easily and showcased another rising star
to watch. That’s a reason to, well, smile about.

“Smile 2,” a Paramount Pictures release that lands in movie theaters on Friday, is
rated R for “strong bloody violent content, grisly images, language throughout and drug use.”
Running time: 127 minutes. Three stars out of four.

All six senior members of the new federal anti-corruption watchdog have accepted Qantas Chairman’s Lounge memberships
as calls grow to refer Anthony Albanese over the perks he took from the airline.

Gift disclosure logs for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) leadership positions
show commissioners are all part of Australia’s ‘most exclusive club’ the Chairman’s Lounge membership extended by invite only by the Qantas chair.

This has raised concerns over how impartial the body would be
    when dealing with Qantas matters.

If Mr Albanese has requested flight upgrades from former
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce directly, as reported in a new book, he
may have fallen foul of the strict Ministerial Code of Conduct which prohibits ministers from seeking ‘any kind of benefit’

Commissioner Paul Brereton declared Chairman’s Lounge membership in 2023,
as did the CEO Philip Reed and deputy commissioners Jaala Hinchcliffe and Nicole Rose, Sky News reported on Wednesday.

Deputy commissioners Ben Gauntlett and Kylie Kilgour declared their membership in February 2024, which means it
was after the NACC began operation in July 2023.

NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton declared his Chairman’s
    Lounge membership in 2023

An NACC spokesperson confirmed the Commissioner, three deputy commissioners and CEO are members of the Chairman’s lounge.

‘This does not impact the integrity of the Commission,’ the spokesman said.

‘Each of the statutory office holders has made appropriate
declarations in regards to Chairman’s lounge
membership in the NACC Gifts and Benefits register.

‘Qantas is not a Commonwealth agency within the
    Commission’s jurisdiction.’

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and his deputy Sussan Ley have said the Prime Minister
should refer himself to the NACC over 22 upgrades and extra
Chairman’s Lounge memberships received from Qantas.

An insight into the type of service offered by the Chairman’s Lounges was offered by a job ad posted on employment site Indeed for the one at Canberra Airport.

The ad, placed by hotel group Accor that Qantas contracts to run the lounges, stated they
were seeking ‘a highly motivated Food & Beverage Attendant to join our experienced and professional Front
    of House team’.

‘This role is based within the Chairman’s Lounge, a small fine dining restaurant and lounge area that offers an a la carte menu designed by Neil Perry Consulting,’ the ad states.

‘Service is discrete yet attentive, providing friendly and efficient food
and beverage offerings that meets our passengers’ expectations.’

Former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce proudly walks the red carpet with one arm around the prime minister and the other around his partner Jodie Haydon

A job ad for the Canberra Qantas Chairman’s Lounge sets out the requirements to serve
    the high and mighty

Applicants must ‘have experience working in a fine dining environment and the ability
to work a seven- day rotating roster.

The claims Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy when booking Qantas flight by personally requesting them from
Mr Joyce are made in a new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist
    Joe Aston.

Aston alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while
in his various parliamentary jobs, which included Minister
for Transport to ask for special upgrades that only the CEO could dole out for himself or his
    family.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr
Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London,
    Los Angeles and Honolulu.

The book also revealed that as well as son Nathan having a
‘plus one’ Chairman’s Lounge membership Mr Albanese’s partner Jodie Haydon did as
    well.

Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that all were ‘declared
    in the appropriate way’.

WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S CLUB?

The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only
club approved by the company chairman, with the guest list
    a closely-guarded secret.

It has been dubbed ¿the most exclusive club in the country¿ and comes with a distinct black card.

Members include senior-ranking MPs including ministers,
state premiers and the Prime Minister, leaders of major unions
and sporting groups, Qantas ambassadors, selected A-list celebrities,
major corporate figures and high-profile media
    personalities.

The clubs can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra,
Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide but are not signed, you have to know where to look.

Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings, wool carpet and marble flooring all
    bathed in natural light.

Members enjoy fine à la carte dining with a complimentary premium array of beers, spirits and Australian wines.
Wine bottles are often given as departing gift

Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books and magazines.

Members may bring in two guests at a time.

Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is to board and your personal preferences

  55. ‘Tis the season for decadence and a touch of sparkle – and what better way to bring festive cheer than a fridge
full of fizz for parties and impromptu gatherings?

Champagne is admittedly my bubbly of choice – I love both poised, elegant styles with brisk acidity
and the richer, pastry-like, gastronomic pours. But with Christmas all
about sharing, toasting, and big get-togethers, stocking up is essential.

Consumer group Which? has named Tesco Finest Premier Cru Brut Champagne the
best Christmas fizz, outclassing Moët & Chandon’s
Brut Impérial. The supermarket fizz costs just £25
a bottle, but many popular Champagnes are priced over £40.

With that in mind, I’m sharing my secrets for sparkling
swaps that keep both the palate and the wallet happy.

    Bollinger Champagne, £58

Swap for? Langlois Crémant Brut Réserve NV, £15.95

    Saving: £42.05 a bottle

For Bolly bling without the sting, head to the Loire Valley, where the Bollinger family crafts
this Crémant using the same traditional method as their Champagnes.
Made primarily from Chenin Blanc, which thrives in the Loire, it
undergoes 24 months of aging, delivering a Crémant with depth that
offers a charming twist on Bollinger’s rich Champagne style
    – with change to spare.

    Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne, £280

Swap for? Roederer Estate Quartet NV, £32

    Saving: £248 a bottle

Renowned producer Louis Roederer is the name behind the iconic Cristal Champagne
    – a prized choice among celebrities, especially when served in a flashy jeroboam, complete with sparklers in the ‘VIP section’ of nightclubs.
But if the £270 price tag brings tears to your eyes, try Cristal’s Californian cousin, Quartet.

Crafted in the cool Anderson Valley, it offers
a taste of luxury for almost a tenth of the cost.

    Laurent Perrier Rosé Champagne, £80

Swap for? Morrisons The Best Crémant De Limoux Rosé NV,
    £12.50

    Saving: £67.50 a bottle

If you’re after something pink, grab this super chic Crémant
de Limoux from Morrisons – delivering luxe for less.
With a delicate effervescence and notes of strawberries and cream,
it hints at pink Champagne at five times the price.
And here’s a little-known fact: legend has it that the art of fizz was first discovered in Limoux, in the South of France – though
our friends in Champagne may disagree.

    Ace of Spades Champagne, £315

Swap for? Segura Viudas Brut Vintage Premium Cava, £12

    Saving:  £303 a bottle

For showstopping-style on a shoestring, skip Harrods, forget Jay-Z’s red-carpet-ready ‘Ace of Spades’ and
head to Sainsbury’s for Segura Viudas premium cava, complete with
a shield that’s delightfully close to a spade.
For the price of one bottle of that Champagne, you could bag 26 bottles of this classy cava
    – and, honestly, after a few glasses, who’s noticing the difference?

Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne, £89

Swap for? Fortnum’s Franca Contea Franciacorta Brut NV, £26.50

    Saving: £62.50 a bottle

‘Blanc de Blancs’ meaning ‘white of whites’ is the name for bubbles made solely from white grapes – typically Chardonnay in Champagne, delivering elegance and finesse,
à la Ruinart. Prices have crept up as Blanc de Blancs become all the rage, but hop over the border to the hidden gem
of Franciacorta in Lombardy, northern Italy,
and you’ll find complex, vinous sips with plenty of flair, like this Fortnum’s pick.

    Pol Roger Champagne, £55

Swap for? Graham Beck Selection Sparkling Wine, £13.50

    Saving:  £41.50 a bottle

I served these delicious South African bubbles at my wedding – quaffed in record time, with nobody realising it wasn’t Champagne.

As well as my own big day, Graham Beck has made an appearance at state
events for Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama, earning it the title of ‘presidential pick’
for sparkling wine. And you’ll save a few quid compared to other
    politician favourites, like Pol Roger.

    Mumm Champagne, £39

Swap for? Mumm Marlborough Brut Prestige, £25

    Saving:  £14 a bottle

From Marlborough, New Zealand’s premier region and home of top Brit sip, Sauvignon Blanc, comes a fresh take on fizz.
Blessed with sunshine and a cool climate,
Marlborough produces wines that are vibrant and crisp.
Here, a blend of traditional Champagne varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier – offers an easy-drinking,
bright character, and a great value sub for Mumm’s beloved bubbles.

    Veuve Clicquot Champagne, £48

Swap for? Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut NV, £14.99

    Saving:  £33.01 a bottle

First launched over a decade ago at £12.99, Aldi has miraculously kept
their best-selling Veuve Monsigny Champagne under £15.

For a sprightly, quaffable style, it’s unbeatable at that price – perfect for Buck’s Fizz at Christmas Day brunch,
canapés, and a refreshing post-turkey sip.
It’s worth mentioning that the Premier Cru label at £21.99 is a real step
    up and fantastic value too.

    Moët & Chandon Champagne, £44

Swap for? Chandon Brut Argentina, £23

    Saving: £21 a bottle

From Champagne giant Moët & Chandon, Chandon Brut is a Champagne-style bubbly from Mendoza, Argentina.
If you’re thinking Mendoza is known for its hot climate
and big, bold Malbec reds, think again – Chandon’s vineyards are situated in the foothills of the Andes at over 1,000 metres, where
cooling influences help retain that desirable freshness in the grapes.

  56. Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent
politicians are better representing the views of everyday Australians, unlike the two-party-dominated system in the United States.

The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to podcast
host Joe Rogan  complaining that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’.

‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have a very interesting thing
that’s happening in Australia at the moment, which is
the rise of independents,’ Crowe countered.

‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have
to bring a non-party-line series of points to the argument.

‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us. In that it’s making both of the main parties re-examine who they are
    and what they stand for.

Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’, highlighting how US politics is
completely dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties.

There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties, but these
receive vanishingly few votes in comparison.

Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to perform well on occasion.

The Oscar-winning actor (pictured ) made the observation in response to
podcast host Joe Rogan who complained that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’

Joe Rogan (pictured) is one of the most powerful media figures in the world

Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party campaign in the 1968 US election which saw him
garner 10 million votes and take five southern states, while another
disaffected Democrat, Strom Thurmond, in 1948 carried four southern states on a similarly racist platform
but with only a million votes.

The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was poised to get on the ballot in dozens of states as an independent candidate before he pulled out and backed Republican Donald Trump.

He has now been appointed Health secretary in Trump’s incoming cabinet.

Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.

The former New York property developer had even considered running for president in the 2000 election under the banner of that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate
Ross Perot, who won 19 per cent of the popular vote in 1992
but gained no electoral college votes.

Perot was the most popular minority party candidate
since former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt
in 1912 ran as the Bull Moose Party candidate – carrying six states including California and coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

Australia has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent politicians who have taken votes away from the two traditional parties
of Labor and the Liberal-National coalition

This situation is helped by a strong Green party
who now have 12 senators and four members in the House of Representatives.

Zali Steggall (pictured) became the first ‘teal’ independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat
in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election

Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong climate platforms but are fiscally conservative have been labelled
    ‘teal’ candidates.

This is because they have combined their ‘green’ views on climate with the traditional
‘blue’ approach of the centre-right Liberal Party on economics.

Zali Steggall became the first teal independent to achieve huge success
when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election.

In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal seat from former
treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election.

She was one of seven teals elected, swelling the lower house crossbench to
16, with this tally including the four Greens, three conservative independents and progressives Andrew Wilkie and Helen Haines.

Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was first aired in August, has recently resurfaced in teal social media adverts.

They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who founded Climate 200, which has given campaign funding to some teal candidates.

Not all the 12 independents elected in 2022
    were teals, however.

Maverick independent Bob Katter has just celebrated 50 years in parliament (pictured:
being congratulated by prime minister Anthony Albanese)

Dai Lee, a former state Liberal candidate, defeated former Labor frontbencher and former NSW
Labor premier Kristina Keneally in the south-west Sydney
    seat of Fowler.

And, of course, maverick Bob Katter who has just celebrated 50 years in parliament, spending 20 years
as a Queensland state MP before serving the
past three decades in federal parliament as the MP for the regional far north Queensland electorate of Kennedy.

Among his many mad-hat policies over the years include a bid to teach school kids how to fire rifles and
a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

The House of Representatives crossbench grew to 17 in late 2022 when Andrew Gee quit the Nationals in protest at its opposition to the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

The Greens and independents make up 11 per cent of the 151-member lower house – the highest
proportion of non major party MPs since Federation in 1901.

Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to execute all the hostages who remain in Gaza if he died,
a top Israeli negotiator has claimed.

Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by chance, sending a drone to kill
    the terror leader.

Gershon Baskin, the Israeli negotiator who oversaw Sinwar’s 2011
release from an Israeli prison, along with 1,026 Palestinian prisoners, in exchange
for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shilat, said that his death was a ‘moment
of either opportunity or a moment of doom.’

‘A moment of doom because there are rumours that Sinwar instructed people holding hostages that,
should he be killed, they should kill their hostages,’ he told the Telegraph.

At the time of Sinwar’s death, just over 100 hostages remained
in Gaza, with 60 thought to still be alive.

Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned to
their families, according Haaretz, which reported on Sunday that top US officials, including Secretary of
State Anthony Blinken, have assessed there is a slim chance of a deal being brokered, given the tensions between Israel and Hamas.

Sinwar (pictured) died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by
chance, sending a drone to kill the terror leader

Protesters attend a demonstration against Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and demand a deal to release all hostages held in Gaza, during the Israel-Hamas conflict, near Netanyahu’s
private residence in Jerusalem June 20

People protest against the government, to demand a ceasefire deal and the immediate release of hostages kidnapped
during the deadly October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, in Tel Aviv,
    Israel

A senior Israeli official told the newspaper on Sunday, several days after Sinwar’s passing: ‘There are currently no serious cease-fire
talks, and Blinken is fully aware of this.’

They added: ‘It’s unclear how Sinwar’s death will impact any potential negotiations, if they even exist
    at this stage.’

While Baskin told the Telegraph that it wasn’t possible to confirm whether
Sinwar had a kill order on the hostages, he said the rumours
ought to be taken seriously, given how little Hamas appears to
    care for them.

He cited the horrific killing of six hostages in tunnels
    under Rafah in late August.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the six were ‘cruelly murdered by Hamas just a short time before
    we got to them.’

The six dead hostages were identified as Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Carmel Gat,
39, Almog Sarusi, 26, Alex Lubnov, 26, Ori Danino, 25,
    and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23.

Five of those who were recovered had been attending the Nova music festival when Hamas terrorists began slaughtering
festivalgoers, while taking others hostage. Gat was at her
family kibbutz when she was captured.

The time on the clock by the end of the footage is 1.32am, just five hours before the
first terrorists were spotted breaching into Israeli territory

This is the moment Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s wife is spotted seemingly holding a
$32,000 bag in the tunnel leading to his secret lair

Footage of his wife seems to show her entering the tunnel to the lair, carrying a Birkin bag, the day before the horrendous
tragedy. She is seen appearing to smile at the camera

People pass by a newly painted graffiti depicting Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar, days
after he was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Sunday, Oct.
    20, 2024

Goldberg-Polin lost his arm when a grenade exploded during the carnage.

‘We saw the six hostages killed when Israel was entering the tunnel.
That could be the case now. We just don’t know,’ Baskin said.

US probing ‘leaked Israeli documents’ which ‘indicate Britain’s involvement in a deadly
    plot’

He said the return of the hostages depended entirely on whether
Israel is able to make a deal with Hamas.

‘It’s a moment of opportunity where Israel should be
issuing a very clear call that anyone who’s holding
a hostage that releases them will be given free passage for
themselves and their family out of Gaza to another country, as well
    as a lot of money.

‘In order to encourage them to do that, Israel
should also be reaching out to Egypt and Qatar and tell them to renew the negotiations quickly, not on the deal that’s been negotiated without success
for almost four months, but on a deal that would bring
the hostages home quicker and would obviously require Israel to end the war.’

He said a deal would likely mean the release of Palestinian prisoners,
a controversial point for many Israelis who believe that their release would simply lead to another
October 7-style attack in the future.

A Yemeni man looks at an artwork depicting the Hamas’ Political Bureau Head Yahya Sinwar

Sinwar’s lair, discovered by Israeli soldiers in the Tel al-Sultan area, was well-resourced, with food, water and
other supplies to help him survive for months underground

These are the disquieting images that show Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was callously hiding
out in relative comfort from his underground lair as he ordered his terror group to carry out the bloodiest massacre Israel has
    ever endured

But Baskin said it was a mistake to think like this: ‘October 7 wasn’t because of Sinwar.
[It] was because we’re occupying another people for 56 years without enabling them to ever believe
that they’re going to be free, or locking two million people in Gaza under poverty and telling them that they’ll never
    be able to leave Gaza.’

Hamas ‘will keep new leader’s identity SECRET to avoid

He said he hoped the deadly attack would ultimately force
Israelis to ‘confront the fallacy of basing its policies,
vis-à-vis the Palestinians, on military force’.

‘For Palestinians, the lessons learned must,
first and foremost, be that there should no longer be an armed struggle as part of

  68. ขาย wine

    December 6, 2024 at 2:31 AM

The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers and shakers where secret deals
were done in private luxury first exploded into the public eye back in 2007.

Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds of thousands of
dollars wining and dining the nation’s political elite in ultra-exclusive VIP lounges was relatively unknown.

It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of Qantas
had even started, when he was boss of the comparatively lowly budget airline, Jetstar.

And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the
polls leading up to an election in next year, the prospects back in 2007
    were rosy for Labor.

The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see
Kevin Rudd become prime minister and John Howard lose his own seat.

The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of the Chairman’s
Lounge then wasn’t about a prime minister’s privileges, although John Howard and Kevin Rudd were
certainly both members during their terms as PM.

But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a long time Chairman’s Lounge member – revealed a politically charged remark made within the club’s hallowed walls,
the cat was out of the bag.

The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned senator
Peter Garrett that Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government – did not deter his party from romping in on election day.

In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing Anthony Albanese
about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his
ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the
    prime minister.

The exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (above) has been a well-kept secret for years, but it exploded into
the public conscience in 2007 as the result of
    a political furore

Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd
which let the cat out of the bag about the VIP club

The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007 that in defending his disclosure of Garrett’s remark, Steve Price had to explain what the private enclave actually was.

In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge is a separate frequent flyers lounge away from the
    crowded normal Qantas Club.

‘As its name implies, the people given access to it are approved by the Qantas chairman, Margaret Jackson.

    ‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’

In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins was also
    a member of lounge.

Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only witness to the remark Price said Garrett had made.

Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes reporters,
actors and performers, and well-known writers and sports people are said to be among the lounge’s
    exclusive membership of around 6000.

Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some claimed was a confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed him to criticism over his own membership for allegedly promoting Qantas
    on his radio show.

Back in 2007, Alan Joyce (left) was boss of the comparatively lowly
budget airline Jetstar, and then Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon (right) had the power over
who made the cut to the Chairman’s Lounge

One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading politicians such as PM Anthony Albanese and the former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce (above) as ‘alarmingly cosy’

‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock jock membership of its Chairman’s Lounge,
which is supposedly to enable our elite politicians
and business leaders some privacy from the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey
reporter Stephen Mayne at the time.

‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and
confidentiality,’ he said, accusing Price of breaking ‘a confidence’.

The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the sole gatekeeper of entry into
    the club’s hushed confines.

Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive
that you have to be personally invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers reported in 2008.

‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that the
mega rich and powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff who will be travelling cattle
    class.

‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club have included Pauline Hanson.

‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure
to cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional Centre.’ (Cooper was the former HIH insurance executive
jailed for eight years on fraud and bribery
    offences).

Membership of the elite lounge is confined to about 6000 Australians including politicians from both sides, senior public
    servants, TV stars and actors

The ‘scandal’ currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership
and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister (above the PM with partner Jodie Haydon and ex-Qantas CEO Alan Joyce)

The report noted that politicians declaring membership of the lounge ‘which most of their
spouses got too’ in their pecuniary interests
that year included Liberal MPs of the day, Philip Ruddock, Bob Baldwin and Andrew Southcott.

Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek, Bob McMullan, and
Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle
of Grange hermitage as a gift from Qantas, as did Liberal,
    Christopher Pyne.

Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff Dixon, the airline’s spokesperson  told Nine: ‘We like to
retain a bit of mystery. Membership is by invitation only and
    it is reviewed periodically.’

Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership
of the controversial, invitation-only lounge with one even describing it as
    an ‘entitlement’.

Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the ‘very, very high-end perk’ gives the airline a disproportionate level of influence over the country’s politicians.

They were commenting ahead of the launch of the new
book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston, which has stirred up the controversy.

A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both
Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives and the
Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish,
    all-inclusive lounge.

Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all his benefits in pecuniary interest
    statements.

At a press conference this week, he repeated that all
of his upgrades ‘have been declared as appropriate.
    What’s appropriate is transparency.’

Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.

PM Anthony Albanese and every member of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer
Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers are members of the exclusive Chairman’s Lounge

Entry to the country’s six opulent VIP clubs are
suitably discreet, but once inside, the designer
lounges offer free à la carte fine dining, table service and a discreet army
    of dedicated lounge attendants

On the Coalition side of parliament, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton,
deputy leader David Littleproud and former deputy Barnaby Joyce are also among the
swathes of politicians who have disclosed they have taken up free membership
    to the contentious club.

Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so is Teal MP, Zali Steggall.

Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and
Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of their deputies are members of the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating the airline.

Senior public servants in the club included Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine Williams, Liz Hefren-Webb,
Rachel Bacon and ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.

Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous business
class flight upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points,
and tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.

The new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist
Joe Aston (above) has stirred up the controversy

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb
and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe
Longo are members despite regulating the airline

Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably
    discreet.

Once inside, however, the designer lounges are noticeably luxurious, with free à la
carte fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a
discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.

Virgin Airlines has its own version of the VIP enclave, the ‘Beyond’ lounge.

Only a handful of federal politicians have relinquished their membership to the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge in the wake of the furore.

The select few to take a principled stand on the
issue include South Australian senator Barbara Pocock and former Wallabies star turned ACT senator David Pocock, along with MPs Stephen Bates, Queensland Green Elizabeth Watson-Brown, and Monique Ryan, a Teal from Victoria.

Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the Independent Commission Against Corruption and a
director of the Centre for Public Integrity, has implored all politicians and policymakers to follow suit.

‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club
    membership,’ he said.

‘You’re taking public money for the job and you are supposed to represent
the public. Why not sit with them while you’re waiting for a plane?’
