Security operatives in Lagos have finally apprehended a notorious cult leader terrorizing Ikorodu and its environs, Mukaila, a.k.a “Actor”.

He was arrested alongside his gang member by Police operatives from the Tactical Unit of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

According to the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hauwa Idris-Adamu, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 2, AIG Ahmed lliyasu, due to the rise in nefarious cult activities in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State, ordered operatives from the Tactical Units of the Zone to gather intelligence that could lead to the apprehension of the cult leaders and members terrorizing members of the public.

According to the statement, “It would be recalled that during the Presidential order for lockdown in Lagos State, Ogun State and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, some criminal elements took the advantage of that for their criminal activities, thereby terrorizing, robbing, and molesting members of the public”.

“The AIG then ordered for the arrest of the cult leaders. This led to the gathering of information about a suspected cult leader, Mukaila, who had been accused of terrorizing some communities like Maya, Itele, Igode and Adamo areas of Ikorodu, Lagos.”

“The AIG dispatched a team of operatives attached to Zonal Monitoring Unit with intelligence to the area affected; they stormed the house and hideout of the said Mukaila and arrested him.”

“Some of the items recovered from him are one pump action gun, fifty-five live cartridges, one locally made axe and assorted charms while one of his boys was arrested.”

According to the ZPPRO, investigation is in progress and actions being expedited to arrest fleeing suspects.

The AIG said the suspects will be charged to Court upon completion of investigation.

Beatrice needs extra һelp with exercise because of һeг sciatica

Weeқ оne: I facxe upp to my middle-age spread
Liz’ѕ top-line diet philosophy is high-protein, low carb, meaning ѕһe’s a fan of ⅼots
of ffoods Ӏ love butt didn’t think I shoulԁ eat: butter, unprocessed meat,
avocados, ցood quality cheese, taramasalata ɑnd thick Greek yoghurt.

Higһ protein helps uss ‘shift tߋ a leaner, more toned shape,
and lose that middle-aged spread,’ ѕһe ѕays.

Timing matters. Liz eats tԝ᧐ meals ɑ ⅾay – brunch
around 11am and dinner аt 7pm. Τhe oгdeг matters tⲟⲟ:
сlear yoᥙr plate of chicken Ƅefore rice, beϲause eating protein ƅefore carbvs kеeps blood sugar levels
    stable.

Ӏn rеcent years she has increased her coffee intake (ƅefore 2pm)
becauze studies ѕhow four to fivе cups іѕ ‘ѕtrongly associateԁ wіth living longeг’ thаnks to thе bioactives іn coffee beans
    ѕuch as chlorogenic acid.

Ѕhe eatss wheatgerm, sokya beans and nuts to uⲣ һeг
intake of spermidine – a dietary molecule tһat interacts witһ oᥙr DNA and mimics
аn anti-ageing process called autophagy, ѡhich dе-ages us att а cellular level.

Alcohol іs basically a no-no. Liz hаs tһe ‘occasional glass’ of wine or tequila, bսt never more tһan twwo and never
    alone.

I chuck out tһe ready meals and plonk, roll
up my sleeves aand start cooking from scratch.

I grill venison, roast ɑ chicken and mаke soups ԝith thhe leftovers.

Eting аt specific times worҝs for me – І’m never ᴠery hungry fiгѕt
thing -and enjoying thhe protein part of еach meal first meаns I’m fulper and fіnd it easy to cut bɑck on my carb portions.

Gut health іs а big focus, whiсh means more
fermented foods. Мuch tߋ my surprise, Ӏ love tһе kombucha and sоon start
to brew my ߋwn սsing Liz’s Scoby. But homemade kimchi – fermented veg – іs а hardeer sell.
Whenn а lunch guest asks me whhy Ι’m forcing myseⅼf tto eat ѕomething I
dislike so mսch, I reply solemnly: ‘Liz tߋld mе to.’

Ԝeek two: I discover I can doo оnly 3 press-ups
Ι reɑlly need hrlp ith exercise Ƅecause sciatica means my
normal routine һɑs gone tߋߋ pot.

Thankfully, Liz reckons jսѕt tenn minutеs a day of exercises ѕuch as squats, lunges and press-ups iѕ more valuable іn thе long term thɑn а higһ-intensity gym session օnce
a week or a loong park run.

She introduces me to heг personal trainer, Michael
Garry, ԝhо delivers thе (bombshell, but wеlcome) news tһat running ɑny distance ⲟver 5k can ‘start
to haѵe negative effects’ߋn our immune syѕtem and bone strength.
If yօu’re a runner, maҝе it harder by speeding uup үօur time, not
    increasing your distance.

At Michael’ѕ insistence, Ι consult a physio ɑbout my sciatica, aand thern һе ddevises а daily regime for me.
І try press-upѕ and make it too tһree. Mortifying.
Perseverance іs сlearly key. Аs аrе weights, espehially іn yoսr 50ѕ.

‘Thе more muscle you hаѵe, thе moгe yoᥙr bones
aгe protected from osteoporosis, especially ⅾuring midlife,’ ѕays Michael.

Ϝoг cardio, says Beatrice, I keep swimming tѡice a week.

Bսt instеad of plodding սρ and dоwn the pool, I start to clmpete
ᴡith myself, speeding ᥙp the laps

Foг my slack ɑnd flabby upper arms, he advises shoulder presses ɑnd hammer curls, wіtһ 3kց weights in Ƅoth
hands. I tгy tricep dips off a chair, and qᥙickly fіnd I can increase mmy reps – ᥙntil by ԝeek four І’m Ԁoing twο sets of 15.

I work out thrеe times a wdek at hօme. At firѕt
tһe routine takes 40 minuteѕ but tһе more I do,
thе faster І ⅾo it, until the wһole thing – stretching, press-սps, weights – tɑkes just 20 minutеs.

For cardio, І keep swimming twwice a week. Вut insteɑd of plodding uⲣ
ɑnd down the pool, І start to compete wth mүself, speeding
    up the laps.

Weеk three: I slow the hormnal roller coaster
Ι’m menopausal ɑnd alreaԁy ⲟn HRT, bᥙt Ι know
I could improve hoԝ I feel, which іs sluggish and foggy.

Liz introduces mе to somethіng callеԀ tһе ‘estrobolome’ –
tthe specific collection оff bacteria iin tһe gut thɑt influences
hоѡ our body ᥙses oestrogen. Ꮲut simply, some microbes improve the efficiency with ԝhich oestrogen гeaches tissues aгound the body, meaning wе uuse our dwindling supplies moee effectively.

Ƭhe best way to suupport үour estrobolome іs bʏ eating fibre fгom veg,
seeds ɑnd nuts, plus soe of the low-sugar fruits such as apples, berries ɑnd plums.
Ᏼack to the supermarket І go.

Tо boost the happy hormone serotonin, my saintly mentor insists Ӏ finish mу morning shower
wіth a mimimum 60-sеcond blast off icy cold water, resulting –
ѕhe claims – inn a ‘post-shock һigh’ and ‘genuine
    glow’.

Hmmm. Ι fіnd it hard to relinquish the comfokrt օf a hot shower and
feel not һappy Ƅut mutinous as I step out of the bathroom shivering.

Ꮤeek four: I stand in the flower bed
Living Ꮮike Liz means getting ᧐utside first thing iin the morning and standing
barefoott on the grass. ‘Grounding’ ɑpparently enables
electrons fгom the surface of thee Earth
tо transmit deep іnto the body, ‘ѡheге they hɑve
    an anti-inflammatory effect’.

Liz telⅼs me sһe ɗoes this іn the tranquil grounds оf hеr glorious pile in tthe West Country.
Ι ԁo it in a flower beed іn my shared patio, ѕtіll in my
pyjamas, and feel, weⅼl, νery self-conscious. ᒪater Ӏ graduate tο
the park, and – lоok away now – tread in dog mess, hich doеs not improve my emotional wellbeing.

Տhe also encourages us to ҝeep a Five Minute Gratitude Journal tѡice a day.
‘Gratitude is… a superpower tһɑt improves longevity аnd supports tһe immune system,’ she says.

I can’t heⅼp but tһink mmy better-off mate haѕ ratһer a loot
more to smile аbout than me but, following instructions, I ᴡrite dօwn tһree things I am grateeful fߋr every morning, and every night a short list of
‘ցood thіngs’ that happened thɑt day, pⅼus аnother
(longer) list off ‘things tһat are concerning me’.

My scepticism arοund gratitude slowly lifts ɑs I fibd іt ⅾoes make me realise ᴡhat’s important and what’s not.
It helps mе see that thingѕ ɑre a lot brighter thɑn I thought.
Packing in a rush for a weekend away, Ican’t find my journal аnd am
surprised by hоw bereft I feel withоut it.

Ꮤeek five: I start to sleep weⅼl
I’m a night owwl – Ӏ stay uup tоo late warching
TV and end uρ hitting my snooze button ρast 8.30am…

    and occasionally edging tоwards 10ɑm.

Liz reckons anyome cann improve tһeir sleep iff they follow
hеr routine, which means setting an evenbing alarm for
9рm – tο remind үourself tο startt ‘winding down fⲟr
    bed’.

Emails, social media ɑnd TV arе switched օff, replaced Ƅү a printed book or ɑ podcast.
Տһe takes 120ɡ of maagnesium glycinate іn a milky drink half ɑn hoᥙr bеfore bed
(and stops eating tѡ᧐ hοurs bеfore).

Living Liike Liz mеans gettiing outsise fіrst thіng in the morning

Liz wears a bamboo fibre nightie оr pyjamas tօ keep warm because she sledeps
ᴡith an ᧐pen window, ѡhich she covers witһ blackout blinds аnd curtains, and sprinkles һer pillow ԝith a feww drops of neat lavender essentiall oil.

І’m ɑn e-book reader, ѕo already failing att tһis routine.

Still, I leave my pphone charging in tһe kitchen ɑnd buy a regular alarm clock.
Thе lavender oil makds me sneeze, ѕo I spray mү pillows with Ꮯ.
    Atherley Geranium Spray іnstead.

Oh, ɑnd I tape my lips սр – Liz showqs mе hoᴡ when ѕhe delivers the kombucha.
Forcing yourself to breathe through ʏour nose іs ѕaid t᧐ promote
    more restful sleep.

Alll oof tһis іѕ tіme-consuming аnd tаkes practise, but I find
tһе ritual soothing. Ϝive weeks in, Ι’m getting to sleep earlier than Ӏ have for years –
at 10.30pm after 20 mіnutes drop-оff tіme -and waking at
    7.30am. How virtuous!

Ԝeek ѕix: I crsh оff the wagon
І’m doing my Ƅest, but then I go for lunch with a friend whho chirpily
suggests ɑ glass of wine, ѡhich turns intߋ a bottle. And then a second.

Later, ᴡith a daytime hangover, Ӏ head to M&S and find
reduced dauphinoise potatoes, ԝhich becօme dinner.

Liz has got me on а blood sugar tracker callеd Lingo (£289 foor ttwo mߋnths – yoou
jab а biosensor the size аnd shape of a plastic bottle tοp into your uupper arm, and then link іt to an app ߋn ʏοur phone), which shows
a massive post-potato spike аnd then ɑ hᥙgе slump, whiсһ maқeѕ me tired and irritable.
Wh᧐ knew that such deliciousness һad such a highh glycaemic load?

Ι call Liz to ‘fess up. ‘I havе the odd day whеn I lie in, eat too muϲh
cake and drink tooo mսch tequila,’ she ѕays.
‘Ᏼut that’s fine because ʏou thеn кnow what to do
tⲟo put itt rigһt. It’s not about Ьeing perfect.’
    Phew!

Weеk seven: I tackle my financial mess
Re-reading my journal гeally helps here.
By documenting what I wаs so worried аbout dаy Ьy day, my
    perspoective օn it changes.

Нere, іn black аnd whitе, is a record of how I felt at tһe start of this project ɑnd
    how Ι’ve evolved.

I’ve come unstuck – in ɑ goߋԀ way. I’m not gߋing tօ pretend іt’ѕ been easy
ƅecause chɑnge is uncomfortable, Ьut I realise tһere’s simply nothing to
be gained from thhe worry spiral.

Ιf freelance life іs tough, and my income erratic,
I’m going to Ԁo somkething аbout іt. Buoyed with the confidence tһat comеs with action, Ӏ aplply f᧐r part-time admin jobs.

Аѕ persona trainer Michael observes aas ԝe work out on Zoom, I ѡouldn’t haѵе done this before.
Ηe’s rіght. Finally I’ve started tto tɑke control.

Ꮃeek eiցht: And thе winner is…
Ѕо how һave eiցht ѡeeks оf Living Lіke Lizz changed
    me?

Physically, I’m in much better shape. Ӏ’νе lost
7 lb and taken an extraordinary 5 iin оff my wast
and 11 in off mү body as a whоle.

Tһose tһree pathetic press-ups һave become ɑ whopping 40 per workout, аnd
thee measly 3kɡ weights are nnow 6kg, meaning I have proper bicep definition.

    and feeling infinitely lesss anxious.

Мost remarkably – аnd thіs іs really life-changing – my sciatica is almoѕt ցone and I cаn сome off strong painkillers.
I know sciatica ϲɑn disappear ⲟf itѕ ᧐wn accord, but the timing iis
surely no coincidence. All thosе exercises have syrengthened the musckes around my spine and buttocks and I’m convinced it’s done
    the trick.

I meet Liz forr lunch, nervous аbout whether she’ll ѕee a difference.

‘Οһ wow,’ she says, taкing a gօod look ɑt her pupil.
‘Those arms! You definitely loօk youngеr.’

We chat for a wwhile and she adds: ‘You also sеem more content ɑnd optimistic.
Yoս have ɑn innеr glow аnd a halo of positivity.’

Wеll, yes, shе wiuld sаy that, wouldn’t she?
(Probably. Though Liz is known fоr her candour, soo it’s not ɑ ցiven.) ‘I wasn’t sսre yoս wеre going to prioritise yourself enough and commit,’ she admits
‘Yⲟu weren’t an easy nutt tօ crack so I’m thrilled.’

Ӏ’m delighhted ᴡith my gold star. Ꭺnd I’m
grateful tο her, which іs one of tһe key lessons I’ve learned.
    Gratitude mаkes eѵerything feel better.

That – along witһ the kombucha, ice-cold showers (ѡhich I һave learned to love) and the odd tequila – are thee habits I’ll
hold оn to. Bսt not (shudder!) the kimchi οr flower beds.

ABIDJAN, Occt 22 (Reuters) – Ivory Coast’ѕ cocoa regulator
expectfs thee main crop tօ increase by around 10% in tthe 2024/25 season, iits
senior executive ѕaid oon Tuesdaʏ, adding thаt caution гemains ⅾue to heavy rains thɑt arе affecting thе
development ᧐f flowers annd small pods.

Tһe director of domesticc marketing аt tһe Coffee and Cocoa Council (CCC), Arsene Dadie, ѕaid althߋugh thee fіrst projections fߋr
tһe 2024/25 harfest showed positive signs in Sеptember, regions tһat account fоr ɑlmost thгee quarters
of the country’ѕ annual production haѵe been hit Ƅy heavy downpours and flooding fⲟr
    the past three ѡeeks.

“The rain destroys the flowers and small pods and accentuates the brown rot, which compromises the main crop,” Dadie toⅼd Reuters.

Exporters estimated tһе 2023/24 main crop at ar᧐ᥙnd 1.3
miillion metric tⲟns, compared witһ tһe usual average
օf 1.7 million tons in reⅽent years.

An expert fгom tһe Internaqtional Cocoa Organization(ICCO) sɑid Ivory Coast’s cocoa production shoulԁ reach 2 million tons for the ԝhole season tһis yeɑr, cokpared ԝith around
    1.8 millіоn tonnes laset ʏear.

Thіs forecast іs stilⅼ lower than the average seasonal
    production օf 2.2 milli᧐n tons.

Thhe CCC’s director ѕaid it waas t᧐o early
to mɑke projections fоr the ѡhole season, becaսse a nuber of factors ϲould change everythіng
іn a short space oof time.

“Today, no one is able to say with any certainty what volume we will produce between April and September 2025… The truth is that apart from the production of the main crop, no one can see anything about the intermediate harvest,” Dadie ѕaid.

Ꮋе аdded that іt takes a minimum ⲟf 22 weeкs,
oг 6 montһs, for a cocoa flower to bwcome a mature pod, ᴡhich means that the coca from the mid-crop iѕ not yet visible onn
tһe trees. (Reporting by Ange Aboa; Editing by Anaait Miridzhanian; Editing Ьy Sharon Singleton)

  35. The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers and shakers where secret deals were done in private luxury first exploded into the public eye back in 2007.

Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds
of thousands of dollars wining and dining the nation’s political elite in ultra-exclusive VIP lounges was relatively unknown.

It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of Qantas had even started, when he was boss of the comparatively lowly budget airline, Jetstar.

And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the polls leading up
to an election in next year, the prospects back in 2007 were rosy for Labor.

The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see Kevin Rudd become prime minister and John Howard lose his own seat.

The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of the Chairman’s Lounge then wasn’t
about a prime minister’s privileges, although John Howard and
Kevin Rudd were certainly both members during their terms as PM.

But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a long time Chairman’s Lounge member – revealed
a politically charged remark made within the club’s hallowed walls, the cat
    was out of the bag.

The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned senator Peter
Garrett that Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government –
did not deter his party from romping in on election day.

In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt,
and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister.

The exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (above) has been a well-kept secret for
years, but it exploded into the public conscience in 2007 as the result of a political furore

Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge
member since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd which let
the cat out of the bag about the VIP club

The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007
that in defending his disclosure of Garrett’s remark, Steve Price had to explain what
    the private enclave actually was.

In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge is a separate frequent
flyers lounge away from the crowded normal Qantas Club.

‘As its name implies, the people given access to it
are approved by the Qantas chairman, Margaret Jackson.

‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since
    2002.’

In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter
Richard Wilkins was also a member of lounge.

Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only witness to the remark
    Price said Garrett had made.

Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes
reporters, actors and performers, and well-known writers and sports
people are said to be among the lounge’s exclusive membership of
    around 6000.

Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some claimed was a
confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed him to criticism over his own membership for allegedly promoting
    Qantas on his radio show.

Back in 2007, Alan Joyce (left) was boss of the comparatively lowly budget airline Jetstar, and then Qantas CEO
Geoff Dixon (right) had the power over who made the cut to the Chairman’s Lounge

One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading politicians such as PM Anthony Albanese and the
former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce (above) as ‘alarmingly cosy’

‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock jock
membership of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly to enable
our elite politicians and business leaders some privacy from the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at
    the time.

‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and confidentiality,’ he said, accusing Price of
    breaking ‘a confidence’.

The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce,
Geoff Dixon was the sole gatekeeper of entry into the club’s hushed confines.

Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive that you have to be personally invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers
    reported in 2008.

‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that the mega rich and powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff who will be travelling cattle class.

‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club have included Pauline Hanson.

‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure to
cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional Centre.’ (Cooper was the former HIH
insurance executive jailed for eight years on fraud and bribery offences).

Membership of the elite lounge is confined to about 6000 Australians including politicians
from both sides, senior public servants, TV stars and actors

The ‘scandal’ currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his
ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister (above the PM
with partner Jodie Haydon and ex-Qantas CEO Alan Joyce)

The report noted that politicians declaring membership of
the lounge ‘which most of their spouses got too’ in their pecuniary interests
that year included Liberal MPs of the day, Philip Ruddock,
    Bob Baldwin and Andrew Southcott.

Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek, Bob
McMullan, and Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle of
Grange hermitage as a gift from Qantas, as did Liberal, Christopher Pyne.

Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff Dixon, the airline’s spokesperson  told Nine: ‘We like to retain a bit of mystery. Membership is by invitation only and it is reviewed periodically.’

Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the
country has accepted free membership of the controversial,
invitation-only lounge with one even describing it
    as an ‘entitlement’.

Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the ‘very, very high-end perk’ gives the
airline a disproportionate level of influence over the country’s politicians.

They were commenting ahead of the launch of the new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist
Joe Aston, which has stirred up the controversy.

A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers –
in both Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives and the
Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have
been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish, all-inclusive
    lounge.

Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all his benefits in pecuniary interest statements.

At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of his upgrades ‘have been declared as
    appropriate. What’s appropriate is transparency.’

Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and all
    12 assistant ministers.

PM Anthony Albanese and every member of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and
all 12 assistant ministers are members of the
    exclusive Chairman’s Lounge

Entry to the country’s six opulent VIP clubs are suitably discreet,
but once inside, the designer lounges offer free à
la carte fine dining, table service and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants

On the Coalition side of parliament, Opposition Leader
Peter Dutton, deputy leader David Littleproud and
former deputy Barnaby Joyce are also among the swathes of politicians who have disclosed they have
taken up free membership to the contentious club.

Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so is Teal MP, Zali Steggall.

Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and
Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of their deputies are members of the Chairman’s Lounge
    despite regulating the airline.

Senior public servants in the club included Department of Prime
Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine Williams,
Liz Hefren-Webb, Rachel Bacon and ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.

Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous business class
flight upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points, and tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.

The new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review
columnist Joe Aston (above) has stirred up the controversy

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo are members despite regulating the airline

Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP
clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are
    suitably discreet.

Once inside, however, the designer lounges are noticeably
luxurious, with free à la carte fine dining, table service,
a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.

Virgin Airlines has its own version of the VIP enclave, the ‘Beyond’ lounge.

Only a handful of federal politicians have relinquished their
membership to the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge in the
    wake of the furore.

The select few to take a principled stand on the issue include South Australian senator Barbara Pocock and former Wallabies star turned ACT
senator David Pocock, along with MPs Stephen Bates, Queensland Green Elizabeth
Watson-Brown, and Monique Ryan, a Teal from Victoria.

Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the Independent Commission Against Corruption and a director of the Centre for Public Integrity, has implored all
politicians and policymakers to follow suit.

‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club membership,’ he said.

‘You’re taking public money for the job and you are supposed to represent
the public. Why not sit with them while you’re waiting for a plane?’

  37. Joker: Folie À Deux director Todd Phillips ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during making of the $200million flop film, a
    new report has claimed.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film – stars
Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga and was considered a
surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures – but was slammed
by critics and failed to ignite at the box office.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with Phillips’ process
telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film,
with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent
from the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.
Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the
film does not include a DC Studios logo.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of
    31% and a critic score of 32%

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by critics

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker sequel.
while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca,
Chairperson of Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge
    past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy
rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker
    2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio
but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a
reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a
    Warner Bros. movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips  shortly after WarnerMedia
and Discovery merged in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the
sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which
would have cost around 20 per cent less.

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC
fanbase – with an agent familiar with Phillips’ process telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film,
with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from
the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio
‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could
get through to Todd. And the one thing about genre stuff:
If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re
    going to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the Venice Film Festival,
but Phillips pushed back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported
the decision to bring the film to Venice.

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history as the film bombed
at the box office on opening night.

It has only made $114million worldwide against its $200million budget.

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as
‘bleak’ and ‘disappointing’ — officially released in theaters on Friday,
October 4, but it only raked in $20 million at the domestic box office, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which had
earned him an Oscar for his portrayal in the 2019
film, while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest
score for a comic book movie.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with
    a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score of 32%.

The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box
office during the entirety of opening weekend, per
    The Hollywood Reporter.

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70
million – but the number has since drastically dropped.

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the global box office.

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips –
had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the
budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both
critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film
    Festival.

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of
the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September, where it earned a
    12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.
And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t
listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are,
    you’re going to fail.

However, audiences have since taken to X after
the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this.
what happened to the script?’ while another added, ‘is it that bad,’ followed by a crying face emoji.

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done
well, could have been a good choice. It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator Fleck is,’ one typed.

‘But with some original songs, that keep everything vague,
not just covers. Also when I heard of the ending I snorted fr.’

A social media user wrote, ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the original wasn’t
    a musical.’

‘Maybe he [Phillips] only had an hour long movie, and decided
to randomly add musical scenes to fill the runtime,’ one penned.

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along
with a monkey staring out a window.

One fan said, ‘the movie sucks. i had to walk out of the cinema,’
while another penned, ‘After years of disagreement….*Joker 2 releases*
    Critics [shaking hands] Audience.’

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their
opinions over the sequel, which was also a musical

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a good choice.
It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator Fleck is,’ one typed

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along with a monkey staring out a window

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards to the current Rotten Tomatoes scores.
‘People are saying this is the worst sequel
    ever.’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was
pretentious and dull. has the aesthetic of an arthouse
    film without the substance.’

‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs were also underwhelming too.

they shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’

One shared, ‘The audience that loved the first movie
is not the same audience running to see musicals.

This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether
he would be interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered
    around Gaga’s character.

‘It’s not really where this movie is headed for me.
I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.’

Ahead of the movie’s release, Lady Gaga also dropped an accompanying album titled Harlequin on September 27.

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics,
as they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following
    its release on Friday.

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards

    is the worst sequel ever’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and dull.

has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance’

The ‘bleak’ sequel, has also received a tepid reception from fans,
with some claiming Lady Gaga’s career could be at risk.

While the same director Todd Phillips was back in the hot seat,
critics have said the sequel is just a ‘repeat’ of the first hit but with
    an added musical twist.

Most critics have said Todd failed to use Gaga correctly in the movie
and claimed she was only bought in for the musical aspect of it.

While the majority of critics say Joker:
Folie À Deux didn’t live up to expectations, others have dubbed the movie ‘bold’
    and ‘brilliant.’

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any thrill.

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best
remembered as one of the most subversive and original
films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated
sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a sequel following the first
    movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked
hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with
    her.

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics, as
they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its
release on Friday; seen in September in London

The Times’ Kevin Maher wrote: ‘The director Todd Phillips said there would
be no follow-up to the original, but he changed his mind and the result
    is a derivative musical’

‘This might be the most disappointing follow-up to an Oscar-winning performance since Anthony Hopkins reworked his silky and terrifying Dr Lecter from for the campy, kitschy.’

Along with Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, other stars
that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan.

Joker: Folie à Deux has faced additional backlash from fans as they
have claimed that Gaga is running the risk of losing her
    acting career.

Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the Wainwright Gold is
well kept and a huge leather sofa sits before a blazing
wood burner; or in the dining room, solid and comfortable, with its old
beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with cloths; it’s in the menu, too, mainly British with a Gallic
burr, that makes full use of the magnificent local Lake District larder.

Stornoway black pudding with crispy egg and bubble and squeak: ‘pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis’, is Tom’s
    verdict

We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero, and the man behind Sillfield Farm, who has invited
me up to cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef Phil Vickery, who certainty knows his alliums; and the force of
nature that is Lorraine Stanton, something of a legend around these parts.

But first dinner, and a sublime twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s cheese soufflé,
the texture as light as a sigh, the flavour profoundly, lasciviously rich.

Mrs Kirkham’s, now made by her son Graham, is one of the world’s great cheeses,
and this is a soufflé of quiet majesty. A mushroom soup is equally splendid, managing to be
both light and gutsy, while Stornoway black pudding with bubble and
squeak and a deep-fried egg is pure Cumbrian comfort
    by way of Lewis.

There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by assured technical precision. Duck à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked rare, the skin crisp, the sauce just the right side of bitter.
It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage spiked with shards of smoked bacon. I eat rump
of lamb, four vast just-pink slices, drenched
in the stickiest, most gloriously intense of gravies; by its side,
a tiny shepherd’s pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.

Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of
the Lake District is famed for its damsons); along with a banana soufflé, this time the classic
version but ethereal, served with vanilla ice cream and a pot of sticky-toffee sauce to pour
deep into its molten centre. This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately done, in the sort of pub designed for lingering.
It’s getting late now, and we’ve an early start.
But first, another bottle of wine. Dinners like this are too rare to
    be rushed.

    PLANT OUT SPRING BEDDING

Wallflowers get their name from their habit of growing near
    stone walls.

Erysimum cheiri are shortlived evergreen perennials or biennials often grown as spring bedding.

You can buy them as plug plants now and get them in the ground to flower early next year.

This is a fun activity to do with children or grandchildren. All you need
is a well-weeded flower bed in a sunny spot, gardening gloves, and
    a trowel.

Dig a hole so that the base of the plant is level with the soil.
Pop in your young wallflower, firm the earth around it and water well.

    Repeat, leaving 20cm between plants.

They can grow to up to 50cm high depending on the variety and come in a
range of bright colours. E. ‘Fireglow’ is a dazzling red and
orange variety; E. ‘Bowles Mauve’ is light purple, while E.

‘Sunset Primrose’ is a fragrant lemon yellow.

This is also the time to plant plugs of Sweet Williams (Dianthus barbatus).
These are also biennials or short-lived perennials which grow to between 40
to 60cm with clusters of carnation-like flowers from February
to June in colours from white to deep pink, often in a combination of two
tones. They prefer well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil
    in full sun.

  46. Wine industry is complex, competitive and unstructured.
To succeed in this industry one needs to know his way around or else
be prepared to suffer huge losses.

Here are a few tips to prepare you for what to expect in the winery business:

It involves money – a lot of money

Vineyards are expensive – whether you buy a
ready vineyard or buy land to build one. Flourishing
vineyards cost in seven figures. To start your own vineyard is
to wait for a good 2-3 years before you can harvest crop for making wine.
You will also need your own winery facility, tasting
room and equipment. Although you may not feel construction costs but the
high equipment cost may put a dent in your budget. When getting
into the winery business, be prepared to spend a
    lot of money upfront.

    No haste for ROI

With a full bloom crop too it may take more than a
year, at least, to get the wine ready for selling and if the vineyard has only
just begun production, it will take significantly longer before
you see those juicy grapes bottled and sold.

    Slow on production

New winery brands take time to build reputation and familiarity.
Produce lesser wine and sell your bottles locally to gauge
the consumers’ reaction to your product.

Get acquainted with Wine Services providers

Alcoholic drink making involves more than just grapes; and wineries should be
acquainted with vendors who offer wine making supplies to
get best rates and quality for products they need to make premium wine.

Join a reputed online wine directory

Join an online wine directory to get connected with
other winery businesses, retailers, and service providers
around the world. Go online and search for such directories where you
can promote your alcoholic drink to a wider audience.

    Know the legal requirements

The winery business is complex, with a bunch of legislations governing it.
If you are not sure about the requirements yourself, partner with someone who does
or hire a company which can do it for you.

    Build your Brand

Build your alcoholic drink brand – right from getting a designer label and sparkling wine catalog, to creating
a unique selling aspect for your brand – do everything to
ensure your wine is on your consumers’ lips.

Winery business is both intriguing and exciting. It involves
a lot of grit, single minded focus and money to get your wine to reach winery lovers across
the globe – if you are prepared, you will taste success.

Amid tepid returns at the box office for Joker: Folie
à Deux, a number of fans of the sequel took to social media over the
weekend in defense of the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.

The film, which sees Joaquin Phoenix return to the lead role of The Joker/Arthur Fleck,
debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for the weekend’s top
spot, but less than projections, and half that of its predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and
its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter
nature of sequels to introduce a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the
    franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100%
as divisive as people are making it out to be. I love that the film
didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed
to the storytelling they presented. It never deviated to be
a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’

Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements
    were a lot of fun.’

Amid tepid returns at the box office for Joker: Folie à Deux,
a number of fans of the sequel took to social media over the weekend in defense of the sequel to Todd Phillips’
2019 motion picture, starring Joaquin Phoenix

One user marveled that Joker 2 is ‘getting universal hate despite being more interesting and creative than anything marvel has done
    in years is expected.’

A user said that ‘Joker 2 is genuinely such a clever movie which carries the character study format of
the first movie into the second in a way which, surprisingly, will
floor you by the end. I’m astounded reception is this bad because this is SUCH a clever
    movie’

Some users said that the bad word-of-mouth the film was suffering from was impacting the opinions of moviegoers.

‘The Joker 2 hate is so forced like did we watched the same
movie????????’ one user said, while another said the hate
for the film is ‘so unjustified.’

One fan predicted that the motion picture with stand the test of time with audiences.

‘I may be one of ten people who genuinely liked the
Joker 2. Remember me when society circles back to it in 10 years and says its a masterpiece,’ said the user.
‘The world just wasn’t ready for it yet.’

Said one user: ‘I actually thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you don’t like musicals or ‘art house’ style films you probably won’t like it because it’s not made for you.

The dynamic between Harley and Joker was brilliant and showcased the ‘obsession’ that is
    key to that duo.’

The movie’s box office collapse was swift and has many in the industry wondering: How did
the highly anticipated sequel to an Oscar-winning, billion-dollar
film with the same creative team go wrong?
Just three weeks ago, tracking services pegged the movie for a $70 million debut, which would still have been down a fair amount from Joker’s
    record-breaking $96.2 million launch in October 2019.

A number of fans took to social media to defend the controversial sequel

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce
a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise

Reviews were mixed out of the Venice Film Festival, where
it premiered in competition like the first movie and even got a 12-minute standing ovation.

But the homecoming glow was short-lived, and the fragile foundation would crumble in the coming weeks with its
Rotten Tomatoes score dropping from 63 percent at Venice to 33 percent by its first weekend in theaters. Perhaps
even more surprising were the audience reviews: Ticket buyers polled on opening night
gave the film a deadly D CinemaScore. Exit polls from PostTrak weren’t
any better. It got a meager half star out of five possible.

‘That´s a double whammy that´s very difficult to recover from,
‘ said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore.
‘The biggest issue of all is the reported budget. A $40 or $50
million opening for a less expensive movie would be a solid debut.’

Joker: Folie à Deux cost at least twice as much as the first film to produce, though reported figures vary at
exactly how pricey it was to make. Phillips told Variety that it was less
than the reported $200 million; Others have it pegged at $190 million. Warner Bros.
released the film in 4,102 locations in North America. About 12.5 percent of its
domestic total came from 415 IMAX screens.

Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from
25,788 screens, bringing its total global earnings estimate
to $121.1 million. In the next two weeks, Joker 2
will also open in Japan and China.

Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which added $18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its
domestic total to nearly $64 million. Globally, it’s made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice  took third place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth and Universal and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded out
    the top five.

The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s
White Bird, flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.

Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome twist for theater owners
hoping to narrow the box office deficit.

The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces,
some who posit that it was deliberately alienating
    fans of the first movie

Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix have said they aspired to make something as ‘audacious’ as the first film.

The sequel added Lady Gaga into the fold , as a Joker
superfan, and delved further into the mind of Arthur Fleck, imprisoned
at Arkham and awaiting trial for the murders he committed in the first.
It´s also a musical, with elaborately imagined song and
dance numbers to old standards. Gaga even released a companion album
    called ”Harlequin,’ alongside the film.

The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces, some who posit that it
was deliberately alienating fans of the first
movie. In cruder terms, it´s been called a ‘middle finger.’ But fans often ignore the advice of critics, especially when it
comes to opening their wallets to see revered comic book characters on the big screen.

‘They took a swing for the fences,’ Dergarabedian said. ‘But except
for a couple of outliers, audiences in 2024 seem to want to know what they´re getting when they´re going to the theater.
They want the tried and true, the familiar.’

Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem started with the idea to make
the Joker sequel a musical. ‘No fan of the original movie wanted to see a musical sequel,’ he wrote on Saturday.

The first film was also divisive and the
subject of much discourse, then about whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type
of person. And yet people still flocked to see what the fuss was about.
Joker went on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture and best director, and three wins.
It also made over $1 billion and was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time,
until this summer when Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine took
    the crown.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through
Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore.

Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

with DC’ during making of the $200million flop film, a new report has claimed.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film

surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures – but
was slammed by critics and failed to ignite at the box office.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with Phillips’ process telling Variety he ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill
guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million]
worldwide. Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC Studios logo.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by critics

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears
at the end of the Joker sequel. while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims
that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control
of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December
    2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips
fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With
all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could
get through to Todd. And the one thing about genre stuff:
If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the
fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio
‘fully supported the decision to bring the film to Venice.

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic book

October 4, but it only raked in $20 million at the domestic box office, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel,
which had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal
in the 2019 film, while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel
    (Harley Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score
    for a comic book movie.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews
    — holds a higher score with a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score of
    32%.

The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box office during the entirety of opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number
    has since drastically dropped.

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the
film first released in theaters – and eventually landed a little
over $1 billion in the global box office.

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during
the 76th Venice International Film Festival.

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck)
    – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best
    Original Score.

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute
    standing ovation, per Deadline.

A source directly involved with the film
said: ‘No one could get through to Todd. And the one
thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and
pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their
opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this. what
happened to the script?’ while another added, ‘is it that
bad,’ followed by a crying face emoji.

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a good choice.
It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator Fleck is,’ one typed.

‘But with some original songs, that keep everything vague, not just covers.
Also when I heard of the ending I snorted fr.’

A social media user wrote, ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the original wasn’t a musical.’

‘Maybe he [Phillips] only had an hour long movie, and decided to randomly
add musical scenes to fill the runtime,’ one penned.

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared,
along with a monkey staring out a window.

One fan said, ‘the movie sucks. i had to walk out of the cinema,
‘ while another penned, ‘After years of disagreement….*Joker 2 releases* Critics [shaking hands] Audience.’

However, audiences have since taken to X after the
movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared
their opinions over the sequel, which was also a musical

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a good choice.
It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator
    Fleck is,’ one typed

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along with a
    monkey staring out a window

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards
to the current Rotten Tomatoes scores. ‘People are saying this is the worst sequel ever.’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and dull.
has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance.’

‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs were also underwhelming
too. they shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’

One shared, ‘The audience that loved the first movie is not the same audience running to see musicals.
This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he
would be interested in making a third Joker film
or a movie centered around Gaga’s character.

‘It’s not really where this movie is headed for me. I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.’

Ahead of the movie’s release, Lady Gaga also dropped an accompanying album titled
    Harlequin on September 27.

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning
movie’ by critics, as they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’
role in the film following its release on Friday.

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards to the
current Rotten Tomatoes scores. ‘People are saying this
    is the worst sequel ever’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and dull.
has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance’

The ‘bleak’ sequel, has also received a tepid reception from fans, with some claiming
Lady Gaga’s career could be at risk.

While the same director Todd Phillips was back in the hot
seat, critics have said the sequel is just
a ‘repeat’ of the first hit but with an added musical twist.

Most critics have said Todd failed to use Gaga correctly in the movie and claimed
she was only bought in for the musical aspect of it.

While the majority of critics say Joker: Folie À Deux didn’t live up to expectations, others
have dubbed the movie ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant.’

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any
    thrill.

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best remembered as one of the most
subversive and original films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just
two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a sequel following
    the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked hard to bump the
ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with her.

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and
    ‘repetitive.’

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics, as they
cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its release on Friday; seen in September in London

The Times’ Kevin Maher wrote: ‘The director Todd Phillips said there would be no follow-up to the original,
but he changed his mind and the result is a derivative musical’

‘This might be the most disappointing follow-up to an Oscar-winning performance since Anthony Hopkins reworked his silky and
terrifying Dr Lecter from for the campy, kitschy.’

Along with Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, other stars
that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan.

Joker: Folie à Deux has faced additional backlash from fans as they have claimed that Gaga is running the risk of losing her acting career.

  50. A ménage à trois and intimacy outside the bedroom are sexual fantasies that we’ve all heard before.

But what about having sex in a desert, or even a storage unit?
These are just two of the unusual sexual fantasies social media users have
    confessed to trying.

A hilarious Reddit thread, named ‘what is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend’, features the bizarre sexcapades of commenters — many of who bitterly regret their risqué acts.

The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429, who asked: ‘What is a sexual
fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’

Having sex in the desert, a library and on a plane were some of the most upvoted responses, Huffpost reported.

Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to
have sex in the desert at night when coming back from
Vegas. But in reality, they were met with ‘creepy crawly desert things don’t
    sleep at night’.

Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high school’ covered his girlfriend (including her genitals) in chocolate syrup.
But it didn’t end well — she got infected with a ‘crazy’ yeast infection.

Doing it in a storage unit was another unusual fantasy which ended badly.
User u/isthisfark wrote: ‘There’s a closing time and if you miss it you’ll get stuck behind the gates
for the night. Then the people who live there start rustling.’

Not everyone pursues or even plans to act on their sexual fantasies in real life.
But a handful of those who have tried to make their browser history a reality have confessed they
didn’t quite go to plan — a thread on Reddit revealed

The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429 , who asked:

One commenter u/hot-snake-70 confessed they found
out the hard way that it ‘stings’ if you put your penis ‘in a glass of red wine’.

Threesomes were also suggested to be a bad idea with user u/Touristupdatenola adding:
‘If I wanted to disappoint two people simultaneously, I’d have dinner with both my parents.’

Another user u/odysseus-23, warned against trying to have
sex in a library due to the likelihood of getting ‘caught on the cameras’.

And while joining the Mile High Club — engaging in sex
acts while aboard an airplane — might sound exciting, some warn that it is anything but.

‘Mile high club. Trust me, these bathrooms are getting smaller and
smaller. And people notice, they always notice,’ u/bigindianenergy29 commented.

Some people came to the conclusion that the bed is the best location. u/Mundane-Garbage1003 wrote: ‘Most “having sex in an unusual place” fantasies in my experience quickly turn into a lesson on why people usually just use the bed.’

Adult site reveals 10 of the most bizarre sex fantasies Brits love – including ‘giant’ women

In September, adult video site Clips4Sale published the intriguing findings of its analysis of the changing

The analysis revealed a whole host of obscure fantasies held

Brits are among the most prolific porn users in the world,
with an average of 16,600,000 searches for adult content made each month.

The adult film industry is estimated to be worth more than £15billion a
    year.

While thousands of British men and women watch and enjoy
pornography without issue, about one in 20 Brits have a porn addiction.

In some of the most extreme cases, experts have treated patients who watch

Lady Gaga also made public a Spotify playlist in which her
letters in her songs spelled out the phrase ‘Gaga Disease,’ according to the outlet.

The Star is Born actress also shared a photo of what appeared to be her figure splayed

And fans are hoping that this announcement marks the start of the singer’s comeback.

The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance, Born This Way, Just Dance and Poker Face,
is headed back to her pop persona following the September release of her
album Harlequin, which was inspired by her film, Joker: Folie à Deux.

Among the tracks on the album included two new songs,
and standards such as That’s Entertainment, That’s Life and Get
    Happy.

Like the film, it was not an initial commercial success, marking her lowest ever entry for a full-length record on the Billboard 200 charts at number 20.

Joker: Folie à Deux saw Lady Gaga play Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, who earned the Best Actor
Oscar for his performance in the franchise’s 2019 film

But the sequel was critically panned and became a
huge flop, with it being reported it ‘could potentially
lose $150 to $200 million’ despite studio insiders saying it would
    break even.

Lady Gaga has had some commercial success in recent months with her pairing with Bruno Mars on Die

Convulsing she then awakens and opens her eyes to begin singing.

She then jumps off the car before engaging in a savage fight with another version of

She then wraps her legs around the other Lady Gaga to try and strangle her as the tension intensifies.

The scary leather clad character from earlier is then seen vomiting black liquid next to another

Lady Gaga fans beg her to do a global tour as singer prepares to release her seventh album

‘She sold out two nights at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during her 20-date Chromatica Ball tour in 2022 and the demand was so huge, she wants to push the boat out even more this time.

‘Her next album will be out in the new year and she hoped to spend much of the summer on tour.

Lady Gaga is set to release her seventh studio album in February.

Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at
No. 27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with her next album, which she described
    as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’

Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga said that she’s been focused on the production side
    of her new songs.

‘I love producing — I always have — and something that was really important
to me making my seventh studio album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’ she explained.

‘The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is genre-bending, and I
think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as
a producer and the way I think about music.’

She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound that’s more in line
with her iconic 2009 album, The Fame Monster.

However, fans need not be worried that Gaga is going too somber with her sound.

‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very fun and meant
to be enjoyed at a party, in a club, or at home
having personal fun time — to be free of your worries
at home or walking through life,’ she insisted.

Lady Gaga is focused on releasing her seventh studio album this
February following the disappointing reception to lead single Disease

Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last
month to rave reviews from music critics, who lauded it as a return to the star’s roots.

Unfortunately, the acclaim failed to translate to the charts, with Disease debuting at No.
27 on the Hot 100 – her worst entry for a lead single in 16 years.

On the bright side, Gaga is currently enjoying one of
her biggest hits in years thanks to her Bruno Mars duet, Die With a Smile.

The ballad has so far reached No. 2 on the Hot 100
and No. 1 on the Pop Airplay Chart.

It comes after Gaga’s leading role in the disastrous Joker: Folie à Deux.

The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn), faced
negative reviews from critics before its October
4 release and flopped at the box office.

Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd Philips’s
new film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it was ‘going to bomb’ while filming.

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tim said: ‘It’s the worst film ever made.

Gaga told Vogue magazine that she’s been focused on the production side of her new songs

Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month to
rave reviews from music critics, but the song flopped on the Hot
    100

‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there
was a lot of talk like, “Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!” All these think pieces.

‘And then I think, “What if we went the other way,” and now they have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady
Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane,’ he continued.

‘It has no plot. We would sit there, me and these
other guys were all dressed in these security outfits because we’re
working at the Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of them and we’d hear this crap and I’d go, “What the f*** is this?” And they’d go,
“This is going to bomb, man.” I go, “This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”

‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, “What is the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?”
It’s not even hate-watchable. That’s how terrible it is.’

  75. Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is
at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?

In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that the major
parties look set to come together to support.

The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps
on the amount candidates can spend in individual electorates
to prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.

The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations, thus
increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first
    place.

So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while
using their cash to influence election outcomes – and the extent
to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.

The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing
the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be made.

At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only
find out the details of who has given what to whom many months later,
well after elections are won and lost.

In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater transparency and far
less big money being injected into campaigning by the wealthy.

Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running
scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would
    ‘not stop the rot’

Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired
a warning shot – saying if it serves only the major parties ‘it’s a rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock (right)
said: ‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’

Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed
to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
And how much they can donate will be capped.

Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws,
labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’.

They have lost their collective minds after finding out that
Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the opposition.

I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting to write
    this column.

Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have
been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to drag the major parties closer to
    accountability.

    More fool me.

The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by
Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.

It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.

Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive Palmer

Another potential target of the laws is businessman and
Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court

The Greens have taken massive donations in the past,
contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and
    Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)

The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of
Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals.

And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls
    to tighten donations rules.

Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.

The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately, by
the way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the next election designed
    to catch the crossbench out.

They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for them.

Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the
Coalition. I imagine the opposition want to go over the
laws with a fine tooth comb.

As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include hidden one-party advantages
in the proposed design which would create loopholes only
the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally
    in the years to come.

But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling
a deal to get these proposed laws implemented, the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated
    for.

They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be
    incorporated in the package.

To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being
in politics to ‘clean things up’.
