    13, poised to snapping a 10-day winning streak,
    after officials on Tuesday failed to offer much new on stimulus plans to revive the economy.
    The yuan is down 0.7% against the dollar so far this month,
    due to broad dollar strength, but the currency has 0.5% firmed for the year-to-date.

    China equities’ recent rally has raised the bar for an upside surprise from expected fiscal stimulus news, said
    UBS strategists led by Rohit Arora, adding that the offshore
    yuan’s near-term risk reward is unattractive. “Historically, fizzling of China equities’ spurts acted as a bigger drag on CNH vis-à-vis the tailwinds from equities’ surge,” the strategists said.

    Nevertheless, market participants are still awaiting additional
    stimulus measures that could help further lift China
    asset sentiment. Citi FX traders think the offshore yuan could trade
    well if local equities remain supported, similar to
    what happened in Nov. 2022 – Jan. 2023, according to the bank’s note to clients.

    ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
    Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there
    are many ways to serve them (see tip). The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out
    for all beef, or flavourful pork mince. This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging around.
    The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have a meal for
    an emergency.

    SERVES 4

    4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion

    1 onion, finely chopped

    2 garlic cloves, chopped

    400g tin chopped tomatoes

    200g white bread (day old, if possible)

    whole milk (enough to soak the bread)

    500g beef mince

    250g English veal mince

    2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve

    4 anchovies, finely chopped

    2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

    salt and freshly ground black pepper

    350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)

    1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash of olive oil over a medium heat,
    then add half the chopped onion and half the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes
    to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to
    a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes, to create a
    thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.

    2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft. In another bowl, mix the
    beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies, half the parsley and the rest of
    the onions and garlic. Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any excess milk from it first.

    Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
    Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.

    3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying
    pan over a medium heat. When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5
    minutes) to ensure they colour all over. If necessary, cook in batches so they
    are not all squashed together, setting each batch
    aside on a plate while you cook the remainder.

    4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and
    set aside. Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
    Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further
    4-5 minutes to cook through. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.

    TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.

    If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according to the
    packet instructions until al dente. Drain it in a colander,
    reserving a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back
    to the pan and toss it with a little olive oil and
    butter. Put the spaghetti on a serving plate
    and top with the meatballs and sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan.

    HONG KONG, Nov 28 (Reuters) – A consortium including Starwood Capital Group and Warburg Pincus aims to finalise a deal to take ESR Group private in the coming
    weeks, valuing the Hong Kong-listed real estate fund manager at over $7 billion, said two
    sources.

    The consortium, according to ESR, also includes its founders and a unit of sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority.
    Since the offer the shares of the company are up 14.4% from the closing price on the last trading day before the first take-private announcement, LSEG data showed.

    The sources, who have knowledge of the matter, declined to be named as the information was confidential.

    Representatives for the consortium and Warburg declined to comment, while ESR did not respond to requests for comment.

    Warburg Pincus, ESR’s top shareholder with a 14% stake, plans to roll over
    its holdings into the future private company, rather than cash out, said the two sources and two other people with knowledge of the matter.

    Terms of the deal, including the offer price, are not finalised, however, and can still change, the sources said.

    ESR said in May it had received an initial proposal from a consortium led by
    Starwood Capital Group, Sixth Street Partners and SSW Partners, aiming to take the company private.

    It said that proposal, received on April 25, would
    allow its shareholders to choose between receiving cash and rolling their shares into the new company, subject to the terms of the final roll-over arrangements.
    The consortium subsequently expanded to include Warburg Pincus and others.

    The deal comes as ESR shares have fallen in the last couple
    of years amid China’s property market slump. The
    stock is down over 60% from a 2021 peak, while the Hang Seng
    benchmark has fallen about a third during the period.

    ESR manages a range of property-focused funds and its own property investments.

    It went public in Hong Kong in 2019 after pricing its initial public offering (IPO)
    at HK$16.8 per share, raising $1.6 billion.

    In June, the group said it had received approval from China’s securities regulator to list its logistics real estate firm in the country and
    expected to raise around 2.44 billion yuan ($336 million) from the listing.

    That listing has yet to happen.

    ESR was co-founded by its executives and private equity firm Warburg Pincus in Shanghai in 2011
    and has expanded over the years via a string of acquisitions.

    Jackie O Henderson has left her father Tony red-faced after a shocking
    stunt in which he was tricked into reading about her threesome

    A swanky London steakhouse is facing backlash over its introduction of charges for tablecloths
    and napkins.

    Diners at the London Steakhouse restaurant, which was opened by celebrity chef
    Marco Pierre White in 2008, are now expected to fork out an additional cover
    of £1.50 per person.

    The restaurant, located near Liverpool Street train station, has
    stated that this will be a fixed fee ‘to cover the cost of table
    linen and napkins’, with a discretionary service charge of 9.5 per
    cent also appearing on bills.

    Industry experts have cautioned though that this could be just the start
    of restaurants seeking more ‘innovative’ ways to raise additional revenue from customers.

    Off the back of the government’s autumn budget which saw
    both the minimum wage and national insurance
    rates increase, restauranteurs have been warning
    that prices must rise for them to be able to foot the bill.

    From April, the national minimum wage will increase by 6.7 per
    cent to £12.21 per hour, with employer’s NI charges to jump by 1.2 per cent. 

    Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch has previously claimed the national minimum wage is detrimental to British businesses, and told this
    year’s Tory conference that it was ‘over-burdening’ many small enterprises.

    The London Steakhouse appears to be reacting proactively to its impending expenditure increases, through both
    the tablecloth and napkin fee along with a host of other charges.

    The charges for the linen are displayed on the restaurant’s à la
    carte menu, with the set menus seeing additional charges such as a
    £1 head cover fee.

    A 12.5 per cent service charge is also added to set menu bills, as the self-proclaimed
    ‘linen-topped table dining’ establishment seemingly seeks more
    ways to charge patrons.

    The cover charge concept is one which is standard practice
    in many places around Europe, particularly in Italy where the ‘coperto’ charge covers table linen and
    bread.

    Cover charges are becoming ever more prevalent in the UK, with Harrdos also recently jumping on the trend and implementing
    a £1 levy at its London eateries.

    Other charges laid out on the London Steakhouse’s website include a
    £10 fee for booking certain set menus over two days in advance.

    This fee is not considered as a deposit by the restaurant and
    is not credited from your final bill, but rather
    a charge simply allowing you to make your reservation. 

    Consumer specialist Jane Hawkes told the Telegraph that the
    introduction of such fees is unfair on diners and that customers should be made
    to feel valued by businesses, rather than ‘bamboozled’.

    One potential unintended consequence of these fee introductions is that patrons will feel less obliged to pay service charges
    or leave behind tips.

    Despite new legislation coming into effect in October which ensures staff receive equal distribution of tips, industry expert Ms Hawkes says that this may prove to
    be redundant if fee gouging persists. 

    The London Steakhouse restaurant has been approached by the MailOnline for comment.

    Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity
    is at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place
    hear themselves?

    In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that the major
    parties look set to come together to support.

    The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps
    on the amount candidates can spend in individual
    electorates to prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit
    on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties
    currently spend.

    The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds
    for donations, thus increasing the transparency of who makes political
    donations in the first place.

    So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their cash to influence election outcomes – and the extent to which they can use their wealth at all will be limited.

    The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to be
    made.

    At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made – but you only find out the details of who has given what to whom
    many months later, well after elections are won and lost.

    In other words, what is broadly being proposed
    will result in much greater transparency and far less big money being injected
    into campaigning by the wealthy.

    Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were
    ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’

    not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock (right) said: ‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’

    Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed to $16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done
    so. And how much they can donate will be capped.

    Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws,
    labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’
    and ‘a rort, not a reform’. 

    They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the support of the
    opposition.

    I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting
    to write this column.

    Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these
    important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals,
    in a united crossbench effort to drag the major
    parties closer to accountability.

    More fool me.

    The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system,
    is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing cabal of crossbenchers.

    It makes you wonder what they have to hide.
    Put simply, the Greens and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.

    Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political donors such as Clive
    Palmer

    Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court

    The Greens have taken massive donations in the past, contrary to their irregular calls
    to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator
    Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)

    The major parties have long complained about the influence the likes of Simon Holmes à
    Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals. 

    And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from
    the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules.

    Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a
    mile from reforms that will curtail dark art of political donations.

    The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately,
    by the way. It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power play before the
    next election designed to catch the crossbench out.

    They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb
    and understand the changes before preparing for them.

    Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine the
    opposition want to go over the laws with a fine tooth comb.

    As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes
    only the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to come.

    But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented,
    the crossbench should offer their support, not
    cynical opposition, to what is being advocated for.

    They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that could be
    incorporated in the package.

    To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being
    in politics to ‘clean things up’.
