Oyo Postpones Schools Reopening
For Online PR / Hype / Music Promotion Call 08074130688
The COVID-19 Task Force in Oyo has postponed the reopening date for Primary 6, Junior Secondary School 3, and Senior Secondary School 3 pupils in the state.
The state task force gave the indication following a meeting held on Monday ahead of the planned resumption of schools in the state.
It was earlier announced that academic activities would commence in the terminal classes in the state on Monday, June 29.
However, the task force reviewed the directive in view of the current realities in the state.
Oyo State recorded a total of 76 COVID-19 positive cases on Monday, as the total cases reached 988.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the Commissioner for Education, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, alongside members of the Emergency Operations Centre, inspected some schools in the state to determine the level of compliance with the COVID-19 prevention protocols.
The statement said:
“By the new arrangement, teachers are to resume to the schools on Monday, June 29, while students in critical classes, including Primary 6, JSS3 and SS3, will resume on July 6.”

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per cent less.

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore
— the lowest score for a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds a
higher score with a C+.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score
of 31% and a critic score of 32%.
The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box
office during the entirety of opening weekend,

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since drastically dropped.
Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually
landed a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips –
had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However,
the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film
Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his
portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film
garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September, where

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga
worked hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

in October 2019.

‘That´s a double whammy that´s very difficult to recover from,’ said Paul
Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore. ‘The
biggest issue of all is the reported budget. A $40 or $50 million opening for a less expensive movie would be a solid debut.’
Joker: Folie à Deux cost at least twice as much as the first film
to produce, though reported figures vary at exactly how pricey
it was to make. Phillips told Variety that it
was less than the reported $200 million; Others have it pegged at $190 million. Warner
Bros. released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came from 415 IMAX screens.
Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,788
screens, bringing its total global earnings estimate to $121.1 million. In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also open in Japan and China.
Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which added
$18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $64 million. Globally,
it’s made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took
third place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth and Universal
and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded out the top five.
The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s White
Bird, flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000
locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.
Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the box office deficit.
The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces,
some who posit that it was deliberately alienating fans
of the first movie
Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix have said they aspired to make something as ‘audacious’ as the first film.
The sequel added Lady Gaga into the fold , as a Joker superfan, and delved further
into the mind of Arthur Fleck, imprisoned at Arkham and awaiting trial for the murders he committed in the first.
It´s also a musical, with elaborately imagined song and dance numbers to old standards.
Gaga even released a companion album called ”Harlequin,’ alongside the
film.
The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces, some who posit that it was

it´s been called a ‘middle finger.’ But fans often ignore
the advice of critics, especially when it comes to opening their wallets
to see revered comic book characters on the big screen.
‘They took a swing for the fences,’ Dergarabedian said.
‘But except for a couple of outliers, audiences in 2024 seem to want to know what they´re getting when they´re going to the theater.
They want the tried and true, the familiar.’
Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem
started with the idea to make the Joker sequel a musical.
‘No fan of the original movie wanted to see a musical sequel,’ he wrote on Saturday.
The first film was also divisive and the subject of much
discourse, then about whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type of person. And yet people still
flocked to see what the fuss was about. Joker went on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations,
including best picture and best director, and three wins.
It also made over $1 billion and was the highest-grossing
R-rated film of all time, until this summer when Marvel’s Deadpool
& Wolverine took the crown.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore.
Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

Set foot and see the fascinating sights and savor the unsullied soul of the wind and waters of Batanes Islands and you will be captivated.
Batanes is found in Northern Luzon where you can find some of
Philippine tourism’s alluring crown jewels. The province
lays almost midway of the Luzon mainland and Taiwan. On flight,
a glimpse of the picturesque view of Batanes islands is truly fantastic.
From the air, the superb vista of the labyrinthine
mishmash of green verged by tall thickets of grass,
heaped stones and trees that shield crops from hale winds
and typhoons commonly passing near the islands is simply marvelous.
Huge waves crashing into overpowering cliffs and rocks jutting from
the ocean is a Batanes Islands panorama akin to the Scottish Highlands
and English moors, but with a distinctly Filipino twist. It’s
a seemingly Wuthering Heights scenario in the crest of the splendid Philippine Islands.
Three of the islands in Batanes were named after three English monarchs by English buccaneers and their Dutch crew when they dismounted
in the isles in 1687. Batan, the main island was named
Grafton Isle after the First Duke of Grafton, Henry Fitzroy; Sabtang or Monmouth Isle was named after the First Duke of Monmouth, James
Scott and Itbayat or the Orange Isle was named after William Orange.
Marlboro Hills in the main island of Batan usher you into scenery of landscapes like art, making Batanes a photographer’s haven. It’s a shutterbug’s darling, like a model with perfect angles.
Batan is the center of commerce and the seat of the government in the
province.
Sabtang Island was chosen by the Department of Tourism as one of the best destinations in the country in 1994.
The undisturbed and unspoiled island offers you serenity, relaxation and renewal with its
sporadic white beaches, lofty mountains and deep canyons.
Massive boulders surround Itbayat Island in the north of
Batan. Cliffs rise from 20- 70 feet above sea level, and with no shorelines.
A dirt airstrip accommodates light aircrafts in this portion of Batanes, especially from Basco Airport.
If you’re a mountaineer, a trekker or a trailbrazer up for the
pleasure and challenge of the climb, a perfect spot to
visit would be Mount Iraya, a dormant volcano that
last erupted in 505 A.D. It stands 1,517 meters and quenching the wanderlust of
the wilds in you.
Being in the presence of rich marine life in Mavudis Island in the northernmost part is
truly refreshing. It’s delightful to see an abundance of Coconut crabs or “tatus” in the area.
Picnics and beach combing are ideal in Di-atay Beach found
along the national highway in the middle of Mahatao and Ivana, just 9.85 kilometers from Basco.
Relish the loveliness of nature with the beach beautiful
cove with multicolored rocks and white sand. You can’t miss the White
Beach located in Vatang Hapnit and Mavatuy Point at Mahatao, said
to be the mesmerizing testament of Batanes’ natural beauty.
Neither can you resist the lure of religious sights in the
province. Old churches with unique designs are quite engaging to see.
It’s a wonderfully quaint feeling to be in these charming structures.

July 23 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International pushed the test-launch
of its heated tobacco device, IQOS, in the U.S. to the fourth quarter on Tuesday and lowered its
annual forecast for the heated tobacco business.
The pilot was earlier scheduled to run in Austin, Texas, in the second quarter, for
which the company reported results on the day.
The company declined to comment on why the launch had been delayed.
Philip Morris has invested billions to promote and expand its
portfolio of alternatives to traditional combustible cigarettes amid stricter regulations and falling smoking rates in some markets.
The launch of its flagship heated tobacco device in the United States is also facing resistance from health campaigners,
who have written to regulators in the country accusing the company
of misrepresenting past regulatory decisions, Reuters reported last week.
The company also awaits market authorization from the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration for its IQOS ILUMA device,
which it expects by the second half of 2025.
A ban on flavored heated tobacco in the European Union has already hit shipments this year, with Philip Morris saying the
impact from the ban was “slightly greater” than previously assumed.
This led the company to temper its expectations for volume growth in the heated tobacco category to around 13% for the full year, down from between 14% and 16% expected earlier.
However, Philip Morris topped quarterly expectations and raised its
annual sales and profit forecasts, betting on demand
for its Zyn nicotine pouches, as well as higher cigarette pricing.
